When I was 7/8 years old my grandfather sent away for a jar of Nutella (snail mail) bc he wanted me to taste something really nice from his country. Nutella wasn’t on our Calif supermarket shelves until much later, it was around 1970 at the time when he sent away for that mystery package, I didn’t know what it was other than it tasted “nice.” I waited in anticipation and the 3 weeks or so that it took to arrive seemed like forever but I was excited! LoL I was extremely close to my grandpa bc my mom left me with him at 5 months old and I didn’t see her again until I was 5 years old but that’s a different story. I just mentioned it bc of course I’d be close to him, he’s all I had and I trusted him with everything! That poor man… He was excited about the package arrival too, he ran to the kitchen for a spoon before opening the box. He pulled the jar of Nutella out and opened it immediately and scooped a big spoonful out and put it in my mouth. He was super excited not only to see something familiar from his country of Italy but also really jazzed for me to try it! He looked at me and said “it’s delicious, yes?!” My reply was “yes” for all of 5 seconds. Again, my poor grandpa… it was supposed to be a special moment we were sharing together until my mouth began to itch something fierce that I ran to brush my teeth and then my airways began to close and within 5 minutes total I was passed out on the floor! My gramps with his broken English called an ambulance (no 911 yet) and kept yelling our address through the receiver and saying that he killed his granddaughter! The Nutella was poisoned! LoL This is a story we were able to laugh about throughout the years but my gramps was in a massive panic and blamed himself over something he couldn’t possibly have known. It was the day we found out that I have a severe tree nut allergy causing anaphylaxis. In the long run, I’m grateful to my grandfather that we out when I was young. Now it seems like Nutella has been all the rage! It looks so good, smells good too.. but I can’t have it. 😫 I don’t mind watching Karrissa enjoying it though. She makes everything look delicious even if it’s poisonous to ME. LoL
Love you grandpa and I’m still telling the story about when you killed me. LoL

It's not the Italian or European Nutella that tastes different. It's the American Nutella (and every other sweet snack) that's different: a ton more sugar and adjectifs that are banned in Europe...
