What is Project 2025 and why is it so controversial? Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has been distancing himself from the far-right policy playbook but why? EJ Fagan, a political science professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago has studied the issue and gives us an overview of it.

It's right up there with the playbook of other autocrats. For example, many autocrats criticize the civil service of their nation as being politicized by the opposite 'side' of politics from them, and use that as an excuse to stack the civil service with loyalists, and keep other members of the civil service loyal for fear that they lose their jobs. When I began studying this project about six months ago, I started to draw parallels to how other autocrats took power. What is very striking to me is that earlier this year, Viktor Orban (the Hungarian dictator who rules by decree) and Donald Trump met with each other in Mar-a-Lago. After this, Orban met with members of the Heritage Foundation. There is an ongoing partnership between Orban's state-funded Danube Institute think tank, and the Heritage Foundation. Orban only recently took so much power in Hungary; he used the pandemic as an excuse that he needed more power. Anyway, I see a lot of comments (in general, on many YouTube videos) that make claims but have no warrant (evidence) and no conclusions. My belief is that you cannot just make a claim and leave it that. My claim is here. My evidence is here. My conclusion is a logical one. While Project 2025 isn't fascist, it is certainly built for an autocrat to seize as much power as he or she can in our current system. I wrote this comment because I hope someone will see what I have written, do research on everything here, confirm or deny it, and take action accordingly.
