I don’t know about you, but for practically my entire life, science fiction has been promising a utopian future in which I’d have robotic servants to do my bidding. But is that the future we got?

This is episode 2 of Robots Everywhere, a show where we chronicle the slow but steady takeover of our robot overlords and show you how they’re making their way into practically every facet of our lives. On this episode, we're taking a look at robots designed to do household chores.

I got an add for this while watching Autodale, a series about a dystopian society where the people are orchestrated by a robotic leader...

Irony?

"Detroit: Become Human" The Kara robot did a pretty good job of scoping out and coordinating the chores required to restore the order in each room then getting the appropriate household appliance bots up and running, And she scanned the broken dishwasher then placed an online order for the necessary replacement part .Im afraid it will be a few years before the Hanson sisters can handle that kind of a workload!

i don't think it's the robot butler that's appealing but more of a friend you can talk to that is what people want (well i certainly do)

AI household chore robots wouldn't come able to walk in and do things. You'd have to show it every item, show it where you want every item. Everytime you brought in new items you'd have to show it and tell it, this is a it belongs Itd be like a toddler the first few weeks as you taught it room by room, object by object your unique home and your unique belongings. This shirt goes to this closet. So when it did do the laundry it knew which drawer or closet in which room each item belongs. Itd be like raising a fast learning toddler that only needed to he shown and told once...

While he is correct that multiple one task robots can do multiple jobs at the same time, you still have to empty + clean them and make sure they can navigate your home and then theres the fact that they cant get into small gaps like under the sofa or behind the tv. One human caperble robot would actually provide full autonomy for all househould jobs. The current single job robots only save a small amount of time, you will still need to sweep/vacuum the areas it misses so you are probably only saving a very small amount of time and effort. While human level robots seem far off and I think they are, it may only be about 5-10yrs until one is made. Look at the progress Boston Dynamics has made with there atlas robot and once they solve fully autonomous driving the same software can be adapted to a house household robot. Identifying a kitchen, the coffee, spoon etc maybe be thought of as a difficult thing to replicate, robots (Tesla) are already caperble of identifying roads, signs, road markings, people, animals, other vehicles etc. A home or business butler robot also has the advantage of being mainly in one building, once it learns the building and where everything is navigating it may be an easier task then constantly changing roads.

3:26 Alexa sends messages to the other bots because one robot can't seem to do it all. Science is so close to realizing that we don't think our thoughts, but rather we're more like radios picking up frequencies, only with the more practiced frequencies easier to pick up. C'mon, science, you can do it!
