Is A $12 Pint Of Ice Cream Worth The Money?

It seems like pricy artisanal ice cream is everywhere these days. Once limited to brands like Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs, the premium ice cream freezer at the grocery store is crowded with ice cream that's handmade and includes top dollar ingredients. While brands like Halo Top, Ample Hills, and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams are for sale in a larger number of stores, the price can result in sticker shock. A pint of Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream retails for $12 a pint. Here's why pints have sky-rocked in price.

Yes I'm not spending $12 for ice cream. $7 is the max I'm paying and that's only if it's super good. I'm talking like blow me away.

I prefer to keep my expenses low. Having that said, I would maybe pay $20 for a pint of over-the-top beyond delicious ice-cream once in a few months.

I feel like people that haven’t eaten good ice cream wouldn’t spend $12 on a pint. I love ice cream, my favorite ice cream shop at the moment is honeycomb creamery in Cambridge, MA. It’s about $10 for a pint and I don’t mind paying that because all their ingredients are locally sourced and have amazing flavors!

Way too expensive for Graham. He won't even spend $1 on iced coffee 😂 ☕️

Honestly, if it gets that expensive, you could go to a local ice cream shop to get fresh ice cream. A lot of them sell pints or tubs of ice cream as well that's much higher quality and it's supporting local businesses at the very least.

I love ice cream and I can usually just sit and eat a pint at a time. I've had $10+ ice cream, some of the brands mentioned here, and tried many of their exotic flavors. I can also comfortably afford the more expensive ice cream, but in terms of price vs. satisfaction, they are completely not worth it. I'm just as happy eating a $5 HD pint. There is a clear difference between cheap supermarket brands and premium brands, but once you get to $5-6 a pint, anything extra you're not paying for the taste.

"I don't love the idea that our ice cream is expensive" I'm sure 90% of business owners would say the same thing about their product.

Get milk, sugar and air, make your own icecream.

It is called marketing. People will pay about anything with the Instagram sheeps. I'll stick with Breyers ice cream which is plenty good for me when I want some and usually it is on sale!

Jeni's and Graeter's are the best ice cream pints, imo.

I understand why many do not want to spend a lot on ice cream. And I’m completely on the Graham team. But I think if you can afford it and you enjoy it. It’s definitely something worth buying. There is a local ice cream shop I go to. Where servings are small and prices are higher. But it just tastes soo much better then typical ice cream. My favorite, mint chocolate chip, really feels like you are eating a mint leaf itself. So I think if you can splurge, enjoy it. We only have so much time on Earth. Be smart with your finances, but treat yourself to deliciousness from time to time.

I've tried that first one Ample Hill? While it's good it is not worth nearly $10 a pint. Yes it's fresh but when it's hot outside all ice cream will taste good.

My favorite flavor is vanilla. I want a blank canvas for undiscovered flavor combination that im gonna make. But if a particular flavor is not available in my country I'd buy it.

I'd pay C$6 (~US$4.50) for 500 ml (slightly more than a pint) of Haagen Dazs. Great flavour and consistency. Don't care for any of the brands in the video.
