Good job!
Wood is natural material, it looks nice.
But you must treat the boards with an antiseptic, otherwise they will rot and look like your fence.

Any suggestion on what kind of timber to use ? I’m in Upstate NY and with three big dogs my back yard is mud, I’m thinking of doing this in combination with pea gravel

Great concept, poor execution. Aesthically unappealing, almost to the point of being hideous. You need to hire a good designer. Terminations, segues, and angles are really bad and almost irritating. What's up with the four boards leading up to the boardwalk ? It looks like someone just dropped them there. Somewhere between Mickey Mouse and do it yourself by homeowner. Very unprofessional appearance. Needs to be modified and finessed. It's not too late.
