The funny thing is that my Aunt and Uncle live in Nassau County, Long Island, NY (they are originally from Brooklyn) and own two houses. My Aunt was a teacher for 20+ years, and my Uncle was a subway conductor. Both were making $80k+ and heading toward retirement. I also have Aunts and Uncles who have moved down South and are doing well. Most of it has to do with your mindset and what you do with the money. You can move down South and still end up with nothing if you don't make the right choices.

Volunteering for events is the way to go. You get to connect with more attendees and speakers that way. I’m volunteering for a women in tech conference happening this week in nyc

If you have viewers in NYC area that want to make decent money with limited skills, they can apply for the railroad. MetroNorth, LIRR or Transit

A lotta folks are talking we can't afford a house or a car. NO. You can't afford the house you *want* . The house I grew up in is listed at $200, 000. There are others in the same neighborhood for half that price. So for a grand a month, you can buy a house. No, you won't be close to the downtown area. No, there won't be any coffeehouses. No, you can't walk to the bar. But check this. You buy the house, you stay on top of your payments, save, and then move to the house you want. You can get a decent used Toyota for $7k and not have a car note. Shop at Trader Joes, get a Planet Fitness membership. These folks (especially) kids want it NOW. Here's a message for you. I grew up watching these Boomers. They had crappy apartments, stayed 2-3 in a house, and with their parents until they were able to afford it. Don't judge a 60 year old man by what he has now. You don't know what he did to get that.

I am a 20 year enlisted retired Army logistician. Head Hunters stay in my LinkedIn inbox offering me really good employment opportunities. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, but choose to retire in Texas, and have no regrets.

Correct, as a former Soldier there are so many MOS's (Jobs/Skills) available that folks have no idea about. Mechanics, electronics repair, Air Traffic Controller, Carpentry, Plumbing, Medical, Cyber Security, Musician/Band, Network maintenance and administration, helicopter pilot/crewman/mechanic, Police, Criminal investigator, etc etc etc... you don't have to be a Gun Toter like I was.

These jobs definitely will not take accountability for hiring idiots and then task you with training them or pulling the weight of 3 people. I am currently running away from my job due to this.

People have excuses for everything. However, the results are the results.

No excuse because pay was low and still high incomparison to pay. In 1980 my brother bought his house in Monrovia California and he was paying 16% interest. My mom was a realtor and convinced him to purchase a home near his job at City of Hope hospital no matter the interest rate. She helped him refinanced when the interest rate dropped. In 1980 I made $3.25 per hour at JCPenney while I was in college. Two out of 4 kids owned homes and 1 lived in parents home. The American Dream is to own a home.

Just watched a PBS documentary on YouTube called "America By The Numbers: The Shifting Demographics In Mainstream ." In it, refugees from across the ocean came here, immediately opened businesses and are trying to work on citizenship. They are heavily involved in their local politics.

Hey Ericka. I have a super random question. Do you think Austin is a safe place for a young (black) conservative woman to move there by herself? More emphasis on being a single woman. The homelessness, the former defunding of the police, the liberalism, the traffic. All concerns, but don’t want to turn down a great job offer due to stereotypes if it may not be an actual problem for me. Thanks.
