The biggest problem is that they don't check it when they should alot of the time

This system is used a lot in Cricket to review plays and showing fans the footage is definitely very helpful

Yeah we have such things in cricket where the 3rd umpire (or tv umpire) would talk on potential outs, legal play and etc. And thankful AIFF chairman has decided to implement such system with VAR in this year for Indian super league.

The thing is VAR only puts footage for the refs to check but not for the fans so I don't I understand why they don't allow the fans to know about what is happening

There's a similar thing in cricket called the DRS ( Decision Review System) but the fans in the stadium and players can also see what's happening on the big screen put in the stadium.

Actually in cricket we call it as DRS (Decision Review System) it is very helpful for the players, fans and importantly for umpires for making the decision.

In India, in both cricket and football they show both the scene and the decisions.

I opened the comment section on Bundesligas community post about promoted teams yesterday and everyone was talking about Fiago and how sad they felt for him. Heck, even the admin was replying to some of them💀💀

Yeah. In almost all big sports events I’ve been to (mid west USA) they will show a replay but it’s always either the worst angle or the camera cuts off before you can see anything. It’s like they have a designated cameraman who’s goal is to get the worst angles

They should make it possible for us to hear them discuss the decision that they are about to make. This way we will understand why the decision is being made.

I think that the reason is so that the referee wont get effected by the fans, but I do agree with you still

In cricket, some stadiums do show the footage for the DRS(Decision Review Stadium)

If I'm not wrong, cricket has this practice during the DRS. Whenever there is a contentious decision, the incident would be shown in the stadium as well as the TV screens. It has been splendid overall

I think they also should do it like in american football and explain what the situation was, like "offside number 20, no goal", etc.

They should add a microphone for referees to talk to fans through stadium speakers to clarify their decision like NFL

Here in Brazil stadiums are starting to show the VAR image being checked simultaneously to avoid this type of problems

My idea to why they do it is if you let the players see the footage mid game, it’s going to lead to more arguing with referees
