This Text comes from ARTE TV Station Germany - France:

The Hungarian pianist András Schiff stands like a rock in the contemporary piano landscape. He's not the type of virtuoso to be celebrated in arenas with thunderous applause. Schiff is a precise worker, a musical exegete who works deep into the piano and chamber music literature, a philosopher at the grand piano who deals with sound and structure. The large cycles with which he devoted himself to the music of J. S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert bear witness to this. And last but not least, he is a political person who spoke out openly against the restrictions on democratic rights in his country of origin. Since then he has not given any more concerts in Hungary. In the classical city of Weimar, where his great compatriot Franz Liszt once worked, Sir András Schiff, who was knighted in 2014, has dedicated himself to three of his "great loves": Bach, Beethoven and Schubert.

András Schiff plays Johann Sebastian Bach in the Duchess Anna Amalia Library in Weimar: Capriccio sopra la lontananza del suo fratello dilettissimo BWV 992; Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 15 in D major, Op. 28 "Pastorale"; Franz Schubert: Three late piano pieces D 946, Hungarian melody D 817.

András Schiff spielt in der Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek in Weimar Johann Sebastian Bach: Capriccio sopra la lontananza del suo fratello dilettissimo BWV 992; Ludwig van Beethoven: Klaviersonate Nr. 15 in D-Dur, op. 28 "Pastorale"; Franz Schubert: Drei späte Klavierstücke D 946, Ungarische Melodie D 817.

for the wise pianist, here is the time to look at his hands, his technique and strike...valuable lessons when you can finally see his hands from a true angle!

Absolutely marvellous way of being from Andràs Schiff… I spent over half a decade studying at the Liszt School in Weimar adjacent to this breathtaking historic library filmed here. It was summer 2004 when the library was burnt and the citizens formed a line saving those rare books. The following year it was announced that a Bach work had been discovered in the collection at the Anna Amalia Bibliothek, the first vocal work of his to be discovered in around 65 years. The piece was Alles mit Gott und nichts ohn’ ihn, which means Everything with God and Nothing Without Him. The city of Weimar is magical with it’s long history of arts & culture brought to its zenith and is, rightfully so, is a UNESCO site.

I saw Schiff play a live concert in Weimar - all memorized— unbelievable level of musicianship

A word to the cameraman: this is a beautiful video. However as a musician I would prefer to see a less active camera, and more focus on Mr. Schiff, especially his hands and arms. I am getting a little seasick with all the camera movement. Mr. Schiff should be the primary focus.
