How to practice effectively; Pt. 1 Rudiments
Показать описание
Part one of a series on ideas for improving rhythmic vocabulary by developing healthy practice methods. These are intended as ideas to help build a structure to foster improvement on your instrument. There are many ways to approach this subject. This is only one way and not intended to be law.
In this video I go over the following themes for practicing:
1. Practice is an art form
2. Be specific (as to what you are practicing or trying to achieve)
3. Use a notebook or journal
4. Prepare for the practice session. Eliminating distractions
5. Use some form of curriculum. it doesn't have to be the books or videos I suggest, however there should be some "plan" to help keep you accountable. This could even be a plan you have designed yourself.
6. Use Time blocks
7. Use a measurable structure for accountability. This aids in the fight against frustration concerning achieving goals. When you can see how far you have come you are less likely to get frustrated and quit.
Book mentioned in beginning of video is "The Art of Practice" by Madeline Bruser.
Also I wanted to mention a special thanks to Nick Ruffini from the Drummer's Resource. While I am blessed to have received great wisdom from my parents and many mentors over the last four decades (my total existence on this planet haha), I would be remiss if I did not mention the extremely helpful episodes on the Drummer's Resource Podcast; Especially those with Benny Grebb concerning practice.
