Understanding Hylozoism with Thomas Brophy

Here he points out that hylozoism is a worldview that postulates the entire universe is, in some sense, alive. He contrasts it with terms hylostochastic and hylostatic -- that the universe is probabilistic or that it is deterministic. He suggests that this worldview enables one to formulate scientific questions -- related, for example, to parapsychology -- that are considered unacceptable by many scientists.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980).

Fascinating conversation. You have such an impressive base of knowledge, Dr. Mishlove. More on this topic, please!

Fascinating. It may seem an overused word but there is no other word that applies. I am so grateful for this discussion.

Thank you both so much! Love the show. I recommend your channel to people whenever I can!

This one in particular peaked my interest. It’s time the word metaphysics become conventional again. We need more solidarity across disciplines in academia

I tend to agree more with Bernado Kastrup... Kastrup proposes an idealist ontology that makes sense of reality in a empirically more rigorous manner than main-stream physicalism (materialism) or panpsychism. The ontology proposed by him and some of his colleagues also offers more explanatory in that it does not fall prey to the "hard problem of consciousness", the combination problem, or the decombination problem.
His thesis can be summarized as follows: There is only cosmic consciousness.

Or as Schrodinger puts it: "Mind is by its very nature a singulare tantum. I should say: the over-all number of minds is just one. I venture to call it indestructible since it has a peculiar timetable, namely mind is always now. There is really no before and after for mind. " In the ultimate reality there is no time or space only the universal mind's perception of such. Now the real question is... why is it that way?

Once again, another book to put on my wishlist. Jefferey Mishlove is expanding my library by an entire bookshelf.

It has been thoroughly researched that plants communicate with one another and with some animals as well. Researchers in Italy have been blown away by the results!!!!

I treat everything being "alive" in it's own way. A rock sitting on top of a mountain for billions of years is alive, in it's own way. That rock is also always changing, it's molecules constantly moving around etc.

This was a great video. I think science would make a massive leap forward if somebody funded a group of pragmatic open minded scientists, physicists and philosophers to have a series of DMT and Psilocybin sessions. Imagine Thomas Brophy, Tom Campbell, Dean Radin et al, exploring consciousness at the cutting edge to give us new insights.

A. H. Almaas might say that reality presents itself in many different ways and they are all true. He says they are all valid and they are all gateways into knowing the basic nature of reality. Dualism is just as real and valid as nondualism, and there are different kinds of oneness. Degrees, too, such as when there is a slight separation that enables the self to appreciate the oneness. When oneness is total, one can only be it but there is nothing to compare it to. Everything is an illusion, and everything is real! After 50 years of meditation practice and study, I was delighted to find his work because I had come to the same conclusion. It's all true. Therefore, what if all the different types of pan psychism are all true? They are just different ways of relating to/experiencing Reality. Yeah!!!

I read Dr. Brophy's brief biography on Amazon - impressive. I'll be on the lookout for further interviews with him and will check out the his NTA interview covering "The Scientist and Mystic Hiroshi." There's one thing I want to address given that the book by Gagliano "Thus Spoke the Plant" was brought up. "The Secret Life of Plants" [publ. 1973] by authors Tompkins and Bird is a remarkable book covering the sentience of plant life and so much more. The first chapter covers Cleve Baxter (a lie detector specialist) having inadvertently, using lie detector technologies, discovered plants reactions to his thoughts and activities, over distances even. A lot of the researchers (including Jagadish Chandra Bose and other notable geniuses) along with their impressive works and findings covered in the book took a lot of flack, and as well having their work being or cruelly derided and/or ignored by the mainstream scientific community and government agencies (the greatest impediment to human evolution, salvation even). So, I have to mention the book - a most important work.

Mankind absolutely throws a temper tantrum over who and what they are, in the exact opposite of their intended purpose. Only in observance of the universal laws, which are a female gender, can anyone find the creative force, and within change do they observe the quantum aspect, that effect that, the sum of which is joy.

I don't mean to be obnoxious and post more than once, but the question of the consciousness of something as minute as a bacteria was addressed. If I may, should we look at a single insect, a termite for example, we might not see much in the way of a significant consciousness. But when observing them collectively, their complex hives, their social structures, nurseries, food storage, etc., we form a very different opinion. Actually, it's viruses that do not conclusively exhibit aliveness, let alone consciousness. I do know this, that many illustrations of viruses look much like the 5-G towers collectively infecting Boise, Idaho and many other cities worldwide. And no, they're not alive, they're deadly actually.
