Baseball changed rules at the start of his career to hinder the game for switch-pitchers...we will never know how effective he could of been

MLB outright forced him out by creating rules to protect hitters. The new rule forced Pat to declare his pitching arm before the batter stepped in the box. A ridiculous notion. Logic would dictate that hitter steps to the plate before a pitchers throws but MLB stepped in to fuck up logic.

Sad to see him out of the league so fast. Was a switch hitter myself when I played and taught myself to throw lefty around 8; was never quite accurate enough to pitch lefty in game but I was hyped when Venditte made his debut. Hopefully we see Cijante making his way I to the pros soon here!

In the '70's, Campi Campineras played shortstop for the Oakland A's. He played all nine positions in one game.

He was a switch pitcher earlier in life. He had the same issue. He had a glove for each hand with him on the mound. He would swap depending on which way the hitter was batting. This could get into a round-robin tussle before he pitched a single ball to a batter.

So the situation of how to deal with this situation (switch pitcher) was first known and dealt with in the late '60's or early' 70's.

Put his glove in the hall of fame. His glove is the most unique glove in all of baseball history

His little league coaches must have loved him. He could pitch double the time without getting hurt

So I actually got trained by Pat Vendetti…he’s from Omaha and actually is a GREAT guy! He taught me for over two years!

Greg Harris was the first pitcher who pitched with both hands in 9/28/1995 when he pitched for the Expos

Greg Harris switch-pitched at the MLB level, even though he was mostly a righty.

In his first ever big league game, he went up against a switch hitter. The two shires hands and stances, and theoretically could’ve done so for eternity, but the umps stepped in and created a rule stating he had to choose his throwing arm before the batter stepped into the box, which severely hurt him against future switch hitters.

Saw a Brooklyn Cyclone pitcher who threw switch, it was really entertaining as a kid to see a switch hitter and pitcher go back and forth 4 times in 1 at bat.

Two actually. Tony Mullane in the 1880’s. 284 career wins. Also you had Greg A. Harris who did it for a game in the 90’s

There’s a 12 year old that can do this and he had a different glove with 2 thumbs and it was pretty sick

Pat was on my blue jays team a few years ago, it was amazing to see him pitch. His pitching glove was unique

Played against him in the CICL back in summer of 2005. He played for the Quincy Gems. He went to Creighton. Was a nice guy. Got a chance to see his glove up close and personal too.

Such an iconic pitcher. They created the rule: once you start pitching to a batter. You must stay throwing with the same arm for that batter. He originally would switch it up so the batters never knew which arm it was coming from
