HOW THIS FERRARI 348 FELL VICTIM TO AN UNSEEN ENEMY

S2 E12: We revisit an old friend. We 1st sold this 1991 Ferrari 348ts 5 years ago to a good client of ours. The car was stored in an open aired garage for 5 years right by the ocean. Well 5 years of salty air really took it's toll.

This car also needs the 5 year engine out service. This service is mostly for the cam belt and tensioners replacement, but typically one takes advantage to replace the water pump, thermostat, and other items that are routine maintenance, but just easy to get to while the engine is out.

This car actually a solid example with 28k miles. It has a clean history report and drives incredibly well. As you probably noticed the car is equipped with F355 wheels (typical move in the late 90’s) and F355 taillights accented with a challenge grill. The only additional modification is the Larini exhaust . SOUNDS AMAZING! Unfortunately we really couldn’t pick that up in this video.

So the question stands: to sell as is or put in the money it deserves and restore?

Nice review. I have to counter a couple points you made.
1st. The 348 absolutely had ABS and it was a actually quite effective albeit a complex system to repair if/when necessary.
2nd. The 348 handles quite well counter to your (and frankly many others) review. The setup from the factory was less than ideal but with some changes to rake, ride height, camber and toe settings it handled against the best of its era. Ask any Ferrari Challenge driver what a proper suspension setup does to the 348 and very small changes made a fantastic handling car. I believe Ferrari made proper changes in the last couple years of production in the suspension alignment/setup settings not to mention a wider track in the rear. Earlier 348's can run Ferrari 360 star pattern wheels and it makes significantly better handling at the limit.

Damn, that’s sad to look at. All that corrosion. I’ve got the same car. Had it for 19 years and STILL love it. I don’t even want to trade up I like it so much. A cop pulled me over a little while ago. He goes “did you just get this car, it looks brand new?” When I told him no, it’s 28 years old, he couldn’t believe it. I keep it polished, maintained, and don’t drive it in the rain. The thing just doesn’t seem to age.

Poor girl.  What's wrong with the original 348 tail lights, they are great, get the owner to change them back!  Sell the car as a project, provides access to a wonderful car to someone who doesn't want to lay out the full price for a full restored project.  Pretty cool opp.

Normal price in pretty good condition 40, 000 $ - Repaint / Cosmetics 15, 000 $ - Full Service with Belt change 6, 000 $ = 19, 000 €, that’s what I’d pay, MAX, though.

Rims of F355 look good on 348 but the rear panel I would prefer original 348 one.

That car is gonna need about 15 to 20 thousand dollars 💵 spent on it to get to tip top shape

It will take $35k to restore that car. I would say max price on the car before the restoration is about $40k.

I would say you sold for somewhere in the mid to low 30s.
