2016 Acura TLX V6 SH-AWD Review.. ZF Any Good?

This particular 2016 TLX featured in the video has over 100k miles on it and has either the Technology package or the Advance package, I’m not entirely sure but it has a majority of the safety features. All the tech works and the AWD system will be a desirable option to have in the used market however, I’m more concerned about the ZF transmission and its performance.

2007 Lexus ES350 Review.. 150K Miles Later

I owned a ‘16 TLX Advance FWD V6 for 3 years. Loved it! Wanted to replace it with a slightly used ‘19 TLX Advance but could never find one to suit me. Ended up with a ‘20 Accord Touring 2.0T and absolutely love that car. Will eventually get back into an Acura but for now I’m totally loving my Accord.

SH-AWD is torque vectoring, so it needs you to give it throttle to work. If you throw the car into a turn and stomp the accelerator, it will turn like a bat out of hell, with ZERO understeer.

I am a huge fan of V6 Acura sedans with the SH-AWD system. We had a 2005 RL for 8 years, all the way up to this February, when we had to finally get rid of it at 240k miles due to electrical issues that we couldn’t figure out. Now I don’t know a whole bunch on this TLX, but I am very familiar with the RL’s as being Acura’s flagship sedan. Very luxurious, quiet, and ahead of it’s time if you read into it. Proper 300 hp V6 that cruises nicely on the highway. 0-60 not bad- it’s average in comparison to regular cars on the road at 6.3-6.4 sec, but it’s a heavy luxury car so that’s fine. At the higher speeds is where these things are really smooth tho. These new turbo 4 cylinders we see from Audi are definitely quick, but they don’t push very hard past 80 mph. For a V6 that’s where it’s the best, at 80-100 mph

I'm so happy you did another review on the Acura TLX V6 AWD... it makes me happy cause i currently own a 2016 TLX V6 Tech Pkg my only regret was not getting AWD that AWD system is so amazing! I have had my car for almost 2 years now and I have loved it its peppy and quick for daily use! I bought it at 66k miles and now im sitting at alittle over 90k miles. Its sleek and the body lines look good! My only qualms with my TLX is that the infotainment screen can be distracting sometimes with half the climate control buttons being on the screen, also the ZF9 transmission definitely has its faults and the gear searching at low speeds have annoyed me abit. Outside of that I love the however I will be moving on to a TLX Type-S in a few months as I realize that I have to have AWD for the area I live in where the weather can be sunny one day and snowy the next.

I really really really appreciate you to review the used high mileage vehicle. That’s the only reason why I love your channel.

I got a 2016 V6 SH-AWD Advanced with resonators and muffler removed with 2” pipes and a Taekedo intake. It really opened up the car, feels faster, feels like it shifts faster. I have multiple interior mods/electronics that makes the car feel modern and great. Acura’s are the best cars to mod.

i bought a 2017 TKX tech SH AWD v6 in June of 2021 from an Acura dealer. Still had 3 years warranty left on it. I have had 0 issues with it. I love the car, smooth ride, great on gas, great stereo, fast and fun. I enjoy driving this car as much as my summer ride which is a 2012 gt mustang convertible with a 6 speed manual. Love the Acura solid ride.

Love the Acura reviews. You steered me into getting an RLX last year :)

I bought a used 2015 TLX with the FWD and the V6 as a used car with 100K miles and I LOVE this car. Feels like it has 20K miles on it.

I’m not really enamored with this version of the Acura TLX. The refresh version is the best looking overall. But the J35 V6 is a jewel of an engine no matter what it’s installed in.

Hey Kevin, just finished watching MotorWeek evaluate their year long relationship with the 2021 AcuraTLX & I immediately thought about the dog you were driving the other day, my my, what a difference 5 years makes!...CHEERS!

When these came out I had an 04 TSX so I test-drove the 2.4 version of this and later the 3.5. The v6 car felt slow, and the increased weight up front made me prefer the more balanced feeling 2.4 model. Their excellent DCT they had was a missed opportunity in the v6 TLX you drove and even more so in the new Integra.

i bought a 2015 TLX w/ SH-AWD. It had 46k when i bought it in January and i've put about 2k miles on it. Car came w/ an AEM intake installed and the induction noise is intoxicating, i gotta say, especially at 5k when the V-TEC switches over. Coming from an e90 BMW, the build quality is top notch, very solidly built. I have the same beef w/ the ZF. Especially coming from a car w/ a 6sp ZF which was tuned way better. Its kinda sloppy, i gotta admit.
Overall, im very happy with the TLX, its my first Honda product. My next car will probably be the next generation TLX.

Had a neighbor with a 08 Type-S manual for 14 years until last year when it got totaled. He looked at these, couldn’t believe how less sporty Acura’s had became, I recommend him a used 12 TL FWD. He got it and we both agree it drives better than most new Acura’s. They got rid of the more complex suspension on Acura’s in 2014 with the TLX is my understanding.

These are cool! I'm driving a 2014 TL, that I still love; thinking about an RDX A-spec for my next vehicle. Nice review!

Great 😃👍 overview, thank you. Regarding lack of spare tire, I've purchased a spare tire online and inserted that into the rear bottom trunk where it nicely fits.

Just purchased 2015 TLX w/Tech package. 91, 000 miles. First Acura/Honda i have ever purchased. The vehicle is in good condition. The V6 is so smooth.

As far as the TLX goes…I prefer the 17-2020 with the updated grill. I also prefer the 4cyl because you get the 8-speed DCT and PAWS.
