Volvo XC90 2020 review: T6 R Design

If you’ve got three to five children, chances are you’ll be looking at seven seat SUVs to fit the whole family comfortably. And while you might be tempted to head straight for a Land Rover, Mercedes or an Audi, may we suggest another brand to put on your list?

The Swedish-made Volvo XC90 is the company’s seven-seat offering and brings good value to the luxury large SUV segment. The one I test drove was the T6 R Design which is second from the top of the range and sells for $104,990 before on road costs and extras and really holds its own in the category.

This car makes complete sense for a family. As a seven seater it’s got enough space in all three rows, it’s fitted with all the equipment you need to make family life easier on a daily basis, it drives really well and has loads of safety. Plus it looks good and you feel good driving it.

I gave it a family rating of 8.4 out of 10 taking a few decimal points off because I would prefer the hybrid version - there is one in the range. My kids gave it an 8.4 too, I found them playing hide and seek in the car this week.

Volvo is for me probably best in class in terms of design outside and in. They all are similar to drive and adequately powerful. I might advise the hybrid version if you are economically conscious. The car is big but looks super.

Hi Nedahl I always use high heels, drive most Mercedes without problems, think it is easiest with cars that have floor mounted accelerator. You who drive many different cars, which do you think are the easiest and which are the most difficult to drive with high heels ?.

Great review, I drove a XC90 and it's very good but I felt it's a notch under the Mercedes Benz GLS

I think this SUV drives more like an economy or utility vehicle than a luxury SUV. This XC90 is not a bad SUV, but it just lacks a luxurious feel, both in driving experience and comfort. I also think both the nappa and nubuck leather seats are too thick, stiff and uncomfortable, especially for long distance driving. Even though the top trim Inscription has a beautiful interior with beautiful (stiff) leather seats, the vehicle just does not feel luxurious in my opinion. In comparison to my wife's Lincoln Aviator, the Aviator seats are lambskin soft, the interior is far more quieter and the overall driving experience is more luxurious. In my opinion, the XC90 very nice, but not very luxurious overall.

The only thing i am disappointed with this beautiful vehicle is sunroof, vehicle like this need to have sunroof all the way to the third row. such a beautiful built car can't be 100% with this half full glass roof.

Yea it's cool too bad it's going to be obsolete in a couple years because Volvo is going full electric. A good lease buy though.

I wouldn't pay over $100k for this. Interior is not that impressive and most features are standard these days.
