This August, Oscar® winner Jordan Peele unleashes a fresh take on the blood-chilling urban legend that your friend’s older sibling probably told you about at a sleepover: Candyman. Rising filmmaker Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) directs this contemporary incarnation of the cult classic.
For as long as residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighborhood were terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story about a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II; HBO’s Watchmen, Us) and his partner, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris; If Beale Street Could Talk, The Photograph), move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by upwardly mobile millennials.
With Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini-Green old-timer (Colman Domingo; HBO’s Euphoria, Assassination Nation) exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.
Universal Pictures presents, from Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures and Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld’s Monkeypaw Productions, in association with BRON Creative, Candyman. Candyman is directed by DaCosta, and is produced by Ian Cooper (Us), Rosenfeld and Peele. The screenplay is by Peele & Rosenfeld and DaCosta. The film is based on the 1992 film Candyman, written by Bernard Rose, and the short story “The Forbidden” by Clive Barker. The film’s executive producers are David Kern, Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth.

Ending and credits was the most insane and well designed shit I’ve ever seen come out of a horror movie in a few years

Nothing can touch the original but I will watch this. The original had a creepy ambience too it especially since it was based in Cabrini Greens.

I saw it last night. I loved it! The original one is one of my favorite horrors so I'm glad to say they really did it justice.

Just watched this. Remakes of great films are rarely better than the original if ever but this was very good. Well balanced with gore and leaving it up to your imagination. Good cast, good story line good film.

I hate how they change the original story. They did that shit in chucky (if you can even call it that).
Candyman had a love affair with a white woman, it was very VERY frowned upon.
Candyman ended up getting his hand cut off, smothered in honey combs and stung to death. All ending with a burning in a pyre.
That makes the story better in my opinion

Vanessa Estelle Williams gave me life when She Clapped👏 '"Shh.... don't, don't say that!'" That hands down is going to be my favorite part. Already Knowing me; and I haven't even seen the DAMN Movie yet!!! I've waited over a year & then some; because of this Pandemic. Best believe I will be @ Theater's.... Finally it's out Tomorrow!!!

It's not the original, but it's great in its own way. I especially love the way we (black people) are centralized in the story this time, as opposed to how we were barely more than setting in the original.

I was doing my makeup infront of the mirror as I was listing to a podcast and then this trailer popped up. Without thinking I said candy man along with him. 💀

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm going to assume he's baby Anthony from the original movie, and based off the burn marks.
