In Theaters July 23

This summer, visionary filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan unveils a chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly … reducing their entire lives into a single day.

The film stars an impressive international cast including Golden Globe winner Gael García Bernal (Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Rufus Sewell (Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle), Ken Leung (Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Jupiter Ascending), Abbey Lee (HBO’s Lovecraft Country), Aaron Pierre (Syfy’s Krypton), Alex Wolff (Hereditary), Embeth Davidtz (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Eliza Scanlen (Little Women), Emun Elliott (Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens), Kathleen Chalfant (Showtime’s The Affair) and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit).

Old is a Blinding Edge Pictures production, directed and produced by M. Night Shyamalan, from his screenplay based on the graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frederik Peeters. The film is also produced by Ashwin Rajan (Glass, AppleTV+’s Servant) and Marc Bienstock (Glass, Split). The film’s executive producer is Steven Schneider.

Plost twist: The reason time is flying by so quickly is because they're having such a good time on the beach.

Everyone's worst fear come true: Aging and a bad vacation.

The movie had a really interesting and creative concept. I think it was good but very depressing or at least I feel depressed after watching it. Something you can definitely take out of this movie is that life is short, we should cherish it and people close to us while we still have them.

Me and my wife weren't ready for this movie. It was insane rollercoaster of feelings. As a viewer I felt that time for me was moving fast as well, I couldn't properly react to the events, because everything was changing rapidly and scene around campfire struck right in the heart of my disoriented feelings.
It's a shame that this movie has so low ratings.

I watched this last night and what a brilliant peace of writing and direction, the concept is outstanding and the pace keeps you on the edge all the time, the child actors gave great performances and the plot twist at the end was so cool, the film was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish and makes you realise that time is very short in a life, it gives the effect of grains of sand falling in a sand clock …..

The theatrical poster design is a direct reference to the graphic novel, Sandcastle, which inspired this film. It's from a moment in which a character tells a tale about "a strange old man who had half of everything: half a head, half a body, and half of his arms and legs."

Old (2021) marks the first time M. Night Shyamalan has filmed entirely outside Greater Philadelphia since his first film Praying with Anger (1992). However, Guy and Prisca mention that Philadelphia is where they live.

The film is an adaptation of a 2010 graphic novel by writer Pierre Oscar Lévy and artist Frederik Peeters called Sandcastle. When asked what inspired him to adapt the book to film, director M. Night Shyamalan explained: "The book gave me the opportunity to work through a lot of anxieties I had around death and aging, and things like my parents getting older."

Near the end, the notebook they find that contains a written possible theory and other victims' names is said to have belonged to a science fiction writer. This is a direct reference to the graphic novel wherein the main character that comes up with theories for their unusual situation is a science fiction writer.

Plot twist- the beach doesn't actually accelerate aging. They were just having so much fun that time flew.
