Hello from Maine. I grew up in an extremely rural town in between marsh terrain and low mountain terrain. Wild strawberries, winterberry, starflowers, sweet fern, wild blueberries and autumn olive grew all over our yard. Our yard looked like a forest floor. Seeing patches of wild strawberries truly bring me joy in a world where lawns are somehow valued over alive plants. ❤ thank you for your content.

I’ve had great luck with June bearing strawberries as well as wild and Alpine berries. Also Pineberries have taken off and spread everywhere. I don’t have grass. I have strawberry plants! I really enjoy your show and your music.

I grow our wild strawberries as ground cover around buildings, trees, fences, etc.. The ones that don't get mowed down grow bigger sweeter berries.. I use them in baking, syrups, and such.. Sometimes I mix them with other berries.. The flowers on them are bright yellow and bloom until it gets really cold in winter..

Thanks for this great video. I always enjoy your music so much. I've been hesitant to grow strawberries from seed, but maybe I'll give it a shot.

You’re videos are so high quality and inspiring. It’s so helpful to see how you combine what you’ve grown with other foods that are growing in your garden. You’re honesty about what’s working and what’s not is also refreshing for a new gardener who is learning through trial and error.

Nice touch with the grated Brazil nut!

Great trick to grate the Brazil nut over the salad. These strawberries grow like weeds here in Nova Scotia. They overwinter quite well and appear to be quite hardy. They are easily moved and thrive in containers if you give them good, healthy soil and full sun. I’ve never had an alpine strawberry that was bitter before. Very interesting how different your two plants are. I use thyme and borage as companion plants and it’s definitely worth it. The berries are bigger when planted near thyme. Love the idea of using strawberries as the dressing. I’ll have to try that. TFS.

Going to buy some more alpine strawberry seeds, my white is flowering & fruiting the 1st time. Oh my, what a deliciously fragrant & addictively sweet fruit.

Thanks for sharing, Siloé. I have seen a few homesteader YTers discuss Alpine Strawberries over the past few months and your own experiences with them offer more of a knowledge base of what to expect should decide to grow some.

Ok. I live on the summit of a mountain in NorthCentral Pa. we’ve never used herbicide in our fields, and yeah..I have wild strawberry patches that grow under the hay. My farm is zone 4, so finding strawberries that I could cultivate has been hard to find. I also have critters that eat the strawberries, from skunk to black bear. I must, therefore, plant a garden close to the house. I had a big bay window installed, it faces south. My husband put up a rack for me to tier plants, and he installed grow light strips. I decided to try alpine strawberries in a planter. I followed instructions, but I do not know how far apart to grow each plant. Rather than sprinkle seeds, I instead used tweezers and magnifying glass to plant a single seed on disks of cut felt. It worked. I transplanted them to a planter, about four to five inches apart...they are not big yet, but I need advice. Should I transplant them do they are further apart? Or should I let them cluster at their current distance. I used good potting soil and gave them a drink of Miracle Grow already so they shouldn’t starve each other out. I wanted to keep them in my window because putting them outside would expose them to bugs, birds, and critters. Thoughts and tips?

Aha! I found some tiny strawberries growing wild in my yard last year. Wish me luck in finding more this year. Then growing them indoors in a strawberry pot. Asking for a lot, as usual.🍓

I'm in hot, humid Texas and grow Spinach like crazy! True, that I plant in early fall and again in early Spring - but I am gathering it by the handful and tossing in soups and scrambling with eggs etc for weeks at a time. In recent years, I have become lazy and have been buying starts. You have inspired me to plant my 1st Strawberry plants next year. I'm making plans for a devoted area for them. Thank you for the beautiful video! Karen

I too have trouble growing spinich. I planted a whole section and only got 2 lonely little plants lol. I had really good luck with collard greens and swiss chard. Your little strawberries looked good. I am going to have to try that variety. I love the diversity and your recipe looked delish! See you next Sunday!!
