The Space Transportation System, and it's Space Shuttle Orbiters *were designed and built specifically to construct the ISS*, then called Space Station Alpha.

And now, we're going to splash it at Point Nemo, presently no later than 2030, pushed from this year, and earlier from 2020. No joke; look it up.

All the Space Shutttle launces were from Florida, even though there were other possible sites. The first launch from somewhere outside of Florida was planned to take place from Vanderberg Air Base, but it was cancelled on the wake of the Challenger disaster

I lived in Lakeland Florida which is a couple hundred miles from the space center, but still had a spectacular show every launch. During re-entry our house would shake, andwe'dhear the sonic boom. My aunts house was just 5 miles away and she never would hear the sonic boom, or anything during re-entry. The space shuttle is iconic.

I miss the space shuttle program. I understand why they ended it, but I'd still love to see the program make a return with a more modern and advanced craft -- especially one that doesn't land by gliding in all the way from space to the runway and isn't comparable to maneuvering a "giant brick."

Why does spacex and nasa seem 30 years behind the space shuttle? Could you imagine spacex doing this? We cant even do orbital refueling.
