Regular maintenance of your brass instrument is key, not only to making sure it plays well and looks great for years to come, but also to significantly reduce the need for expensive and time-consuming brass horn repairs, some of which can cost thousands of dollars!

As you play your brass instrument, it’ll naturally become dirty over time; through perspiration, transfer of dirt and dust from your hands and fingertips, and even become lodged with food particles from your lips and breath.

Therefore, it’s important to regularly clean your instrument; removing any foreign bodies that may cause the tubes to become blocked, the finish to become scratched or tarnished, or the valves to stick.

In this video, Wessex Tubas’ Chief Design Consultant Chuck Nickles explores the importance of valve care & maintenance for brass horns, and the difference regular maintenance of your instrument can make to its overall lifespan.
