Born in a small town in the Astrakhan province. In the period from 1854-1857. studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where the teachers of the future artist were K.I. Rabus and A.K. Savrasov. Traveled a lot, visited Germany and Switzerland. Becomes one of the most notable Russian artists who painted lyrical landscapes. Therefore, the painter’s paintings are widely represented in many art museums in our country. The 1860s were the most productive time in the artist’s work. Such famous works as “At the Dam” (1864) and “Spring” (1866) were created. In 1869, L.L. Kamenev was awarded the title of academician. He takes an active part in the creation of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions and is one of the founders. Since the 70s, a decline in Kamenev’s work began. Due to the “illness”, namely, the artist’s addiction to alcohol, he writes less and less, his paintings appear less and less at exhibitions, and his name is increasingly mentioned in connection with the “illness - addiction” of many geniuses of world art. L.L. Kamenev was, unfortunately, one of those representatives who did not fully express themselves, often truly great masters.
