I played flute for 6yrs consistently. I had a lovely open-hole Gemeinhardt that I never played enough, so I sold it years ago to a student on a tight budget who needed an upgrade. Her mother and her were thrilled. I have been casually picking up 12-hole ocarina and the biggest struggle for me is f1) 100% open hole = more accuracy required, 2) figuring out how to keep hold of it with less fingers covering holes. A flute can cradle between your thumbs and 2nd finger, but the ocarina you need to actively put your fingers somewhere else so it doesn't fall in the upper notes and it feels so awkward to me. It's been a fun experience trying to remember how to learn an instrument. I took for granted automatically associating fingerings with sheet music. The ocarina and flute fingerings are similar, but I don't have the ocarina fingerings 100% internalized yet. Doing lots of scales and tab music. Hopefully I can make the jump to sheet music soon!

I play Alto Sax and I know how to play Hit the Road Jack! Alto Sax is a bit hard to play but once you start getting better it will sound good

I was sad since I realized that my ocarina was not tuned (from temu, not surprizing) but this gentleman is so handsome. Now I feel less sad.

4 weeks in I can play anything 140bpm or less with tabs. Double tongue ‘ta-ka’, slur, and ‘bounce’ and long note

So I got ocarina, two months ago, and i'm still doing bad with it, but two months ago I have an electric guitar, and I know how to play some myths already.So overall, I feel like a guitar is way easier to master than ocarina in a short period of time

You could have mentioned that the high notes might be a bit more challenging and that some Ocarina have quite big holes for small fingers to cover.
Personally, I really struggle playing the Zelda-style Ocarina. It's much easier for me to hold the max range pendant and I can play it a lot faster. However, the latter requires a bit more memorisation for the patterns.

I tried for years to find my instrument, Harvest Moon Back to Nature made me want it, even though I had played it for years, I thought the ocarina was fake 😂

I’m not even close to an expert but I think ocarinas are one of those instruments where higher instrument quality makes it significantly easier to play. Like some ridiculously cheap ocarina will basically be unplayable is this true?
