*"How about if we wait for her to have a melt down... and then you'll want to help her." In other words, "It will be your fault, if she goes off the rails, not mine."*

I have a kid with Autism. As a parent, you know your child's triggers and you are prepared for them. Her parents failed her. They expected others to deal with their lack of preparation. I would have had Mac & cheese ready to go. (The only food my son would eat consistently.)

She gets kicked out for nothing and the kid kicking my seat and crying screaming and yelling doesn’t ?

As a person with autism, I need to say the pilot is allowed to draw his own boundaries.

I think this has more to do with the mother’s reaction. She told the flight attendant that the child could have a meltdown and scratch people. I think the captain made a decision based off the future threat she posed—all relayed by the flight attendant.

Hm, they kicked them off because she made random noises, yet they don't see a problem with a baby wailing for 6 hours straight

Disgusting. My sister is autistic, it isn’t their fault it’s a mental disability, that kid screaming for 8 hours should’ve been kicked off.

So the mother warned if the poor child can’t be accommodated, she will act out violently? Yes, you don’t fly. Sorry but it’s a safety issue.

As a parent of a child with autism, it is the parents responsibility to make sure they have everything they need for their child to thrive in outside environments. This mother should have packed or bought food prior and been prepared for this flight it is noones responsibility, but the caregiver of the child. She also could have communicated better to the flight attendant....

Airlines need to be required to have training on handling someone with special needs. She cannot control her actions like we can. I know because I spent most of my teen and early adult years caring for people.

I like how all the comments are skimming over that me fact that the mom said she’ll start screaming and scratching. That’s kind of a threat to other passengers.

Yeah but they didn't kick a screaming kid for 8 hours

I'm autistic. Her mother suggested that she might scratch which suggests violence. The airline had no choice once the mother mentioned possible violence. She should be carrying snacks. I fly with a huge sack of chewy candy. Why? Because I'm less likely to freak out and disturb people if I've got something tasty and chewy to pop my ears and keep me occupied. The airline did what they needed to do. If I'm on a plane and I see another autistic person melt down, I will melt down. Maybe don't fly if you can't handle bringing everything she needs for a trip? And never ever bring up violence.

I love how the person who said this is named “Karen”
This is truly unacceptable. The kid did nothing wrong.
