Productivity on the NEW 2020 M1 Mac - Multitasking, Excel, Word, Chrome and more!

The Apple MacBook Air (and to a lesser extent the base models of the Pro) have traditionally been the tool of students, working professionals, and casual laptop users alike. They generally suffer from performance bottleneck when significant multitasking is undertaken, and can get very hot.

On the new ARM-based M1 MacBooks, the productivity potential is INSANE and the device barely slows down. Using Office apps such as Word, Excel, and Chrome, Safari, Photoshop, and other miscellaneous apps - the MacBook barely bats an eye.

Chrome right now runs though Rosetta but Google is going to release a native ARM version for the MAC sometimes this week for those of you that are wondering....

So the base MBA is sufficient enough for 99% of the users out there.

It's mind-boggling to think that things will run even faster when all those apps are re-compiled to be native.

“I don’t think anyone’s gonna use this many apps at the same time”

Me, looking at my 62 open chrome tabs, zoom, photoshop, illustrator, sketch, powerpoint, word, telegram, whatsapp, calendar and slack apps: 🧐

“I just don’t think that anyone is going to have all this open at the same time”

This is very similar to my standard loadout.

*COMMENT BELOW* any tests you want me to run on the MacBook! I am making videos as fast as I can to answer the comments of my viewers.

Great, succinct video. No BS.

The first genuine real-world test video I saw. And it's greatly appreciated.

This is honestly tempting me to say goodbye to Windows, Android, and Chrome (especially Chrome). M1 is a beast!

I can't wait to see what they do with its successors and with the 16 Inch MacBook Pro.

Subscribed! Keep up the stellar work.

the m1 specific version of chrome was released today, you should update to that & retest

Quite impressive to see how the large excel files open load and work in m1. However the shortcuts for excel in mac is quite different from what I am used to in my windows pc. Wondering if anyone else have switched and experienced it.

This is the kind of on hand video review we need, instead of sugar coating words from reviewer. You are amongst the first to do it. Subscribed!

Very practical test. I am not a professional photographer or Vedic editor. This test is exactly reflecting 90% of my daily use of my MacBook. Very helpful!

This is probably the most useful video about the new MacBooks that I’ve watched 👍

And I’ve watched lots

My windows PC takes minute to open 10 mb excel and this Beast opens 41mb excel within seconds. Kudos to Apple for bringing actual beasts in laptop with good battery back uo

Probably worth mentioning that your test appears to have used a x86 binary of Chrome under Rosetta 2, which has since been updated to run natively. Impressive.

Thank you. First video that’s actually showing multitasking in depth using the 8 gig model. Thanks

So glad to finally find a small business scenario with excel, word, and my typical use case! Thanks, this was incredibly helpful!

Gotta love a hands-on practical review that's applicable to most users, not just the assumption that we will all be video editing. Nice work! Also loved your artwork. It was amazing haha
