You were meant to find this piece. His name has been shared again and you're holding a relic of his success. I literally cried watching this 😢

So cool!! I would love to see a video about Mr. Starling, it’s so rare that you can actually find out more about the person who used to wear the clothes you’ve thrifted!!

this is why I love Thrifting because you cherish Mr. Starling’s jacket in way nobody else did.

So more about Peter Starling born in 1925. He participated in Helsinki olympics 1952, but didn't leave with medals. Though that same year he had placed third at British Men’s Gymnastics Championship, before the olympics.

He then went to compete at another Olympics at Rome in 1960. Unfortunately he broke three bones there due to slipping.

After all this he became a leader of Norwich Priory gymnast club. He had an impressive career in gymnastics.

According to google, it seems like he passed away in 1984. May he rest in peace

Peter was in the 1952 and 1960 Olympics. He didn't die shortly after them, he lived until 1984. He was only 59 but I couldn't find what he died from. Cool find, thanks for sharing. Also cool that you looked him up to find out how the jacket ended up in a thrift shop.

Awww! This is so sweet, I’m glad someone found his jacket and is treasuring it as much as he did I’m sure 😊

I found a nurses cape from WW2 at a flea market in England. So, yeah. They have wild stuff. 😊

What a wonderful story! Thank you for giving this precious piece a loving home and new life!! I’m sure Mr Starling is smiling knowing this. It’s so good to see people give life to old items, which were alive too. In this consumerist society especially..

I did the same with a bag i found at a thrift store. I have found the address of the previous lady that owned it and send it to her (i found it at Brussels and she was at Austria) .She owned the bag in the 1970's. I also included some photos of me. Sadly no one went to get the parcel and it returned back to me.

168 cm and 56 kg! He was a petite man. I wander if that was average for men for GB for the time because of malnourishment in childhood during ww2. Probably why his jacket fits her now 😊

Everyone has 2 deaths. When they die, and when their name is spoken for the last time. He is living on, special thanks to you

I think it may be worth reaching out to his fanily to see if they would like some of their family history back, they may not know it went missing and it could make there year having some fanily history returned to them.

However they may also not care and not want it to returned, we dont even know if he has any surviveing family.

But i feel it may be worth reaching out just in case.

Super stoked your looking after it though.
