Solving an Absolute Value Equation

Learn how to solve absolute value equations with multiple steps. Absolute value of a number is the positive value of the number. For instance, the absolute value of 2 is 2 and the absolute value of -2 is also 2. To solve an absolute value equation where there are more terms apart from the absolute value term in the same side of the equality sign as the absolute value term, we first isolate the absolute value term. i.e. make the absolute value term the subject of the formular.

After isolating the absolute value term, we now separate the equation into the positive and the negative cases and then solve accordingly.

I've been in remote learning for a few months now, and lately I've struggled with math. Today I found your channel and just flew through my homework assignment today :D Thanks so much.

My teacher is from a foreign country with a accent and speaks quietly and ignores questions. I have a c in math just because of him. On the start of a new lesson, he usually puts up a power point, tells us to write the notes down, and he uses big words so it’s usually hard to understand, but what’s even worse is, we get one example. I still remember it, the first and only one we got was like |9x-3|=-4 which had no solution and he let us do the rest by ourselves. There were questions that was like 4x-12|-35+6|=15x when we barely learned or even had a clue how to do this. He never explains, anything, the homework is graded on completion so I won’t even know what I did wrong. Also to mention. Each month we have 5 units, one week for each lesson so when you barely understood the lesson, we move to a new one and forget the old one meaning at the end of the month, our test is gonna have eveyrthing we had forgot.
