Macron: Putin assured me of his readiness to engage in Russia-Ukraine crisis | World News | WION

Taking the west diplomacy forward to ease the Ukraine conflict and fears of a Russian invasion, French president Emmanuel Macron held talks with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Moscow that lasted for over five hours. Sitting across a long table from Putin at the kremlin macron said that the discussion was a start towards de-escalation.

If anyone is curious, France and Russia have a long history together of mutual protection. They had a treaty before World War 1 which declared each other would come to the military aid of the other. These web of treaties across Europe was the fuel that fed the spark in World War 1.
