'Some progress' after Macron holds talks with Putin in Moscow • FRANCE 24 English

French President Emmanuel #Macron heads to Kyiv on Tuesday after offering #Russia "concrete security guarantees" in an effort to dissuade Moscow from invading #Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin vows to find compromise in response. FRANCE 24's correspondent in Moscow, Nick Holdsworth, has the details.

The West has always been calling Russia an enemy or adversary every chance it gets, one country dramatically more so than others. When does Putin ever call the US or NATO adversaries or enemies? Why won't the West try to have closer ties to Russia in noncritical infrastructure or non-vital economies? Maybe the West is not a fan of Putin, because he isn't like the leader before him who was very pro-west, but Russia is more than just its singular leader. Russia is a country of many great people who even through all this couldn't imagine going to war with Ukraine, a country they view as brotherly. Their military are employees who must take a paycheck so their families have roofs over their heads, they have no choice in the matter. This needs to be solved peacefully, but not only that, there needs to be more effort for better relations with Russia going forward.

But how will the West restrict Nato from expanding Eastwards? That's the Core dispute, not really Ukraine.

Does anyone else think Macron is proving to be a better leader for EU than Merkel? Hope he succeeds. Russian aggression is bad but US is jumping the gun and seems too eager to fight. Hopefully EU will calm things down and Ukraine will see no violence.

Minks agreements and Normandy talks are not between Russia and Ukraine, they're supposed to be between Ukraine and separatists, which Ukraine refuses to acknowledge. And without that it's all pointless.
