Here's what happened when we were filming "Goodbye July". I hope you enjoy it!
0:14 We had a last minute location issue, so all of the bedroom and home scenes were shot at our director’s apartment!
0:19 The ring I am wearing on my ring finger is one of my personal favorites, but I usually wear it on a smaller finger…
0:42 My mother is obsessed with this shot! We did one edit without it, and she called me demanding we put back in the dandelion part!
0:51 This short shot took the longest to set up of the shoot. I am not sure how they pulled it off, but it may have required hanging a camera from a beam in the ceiling?
0:54 Viriginia (the director) specifically did not tell me there was kiss in the video because she wasn’t sure I would agree to it.
1:12 During the first day of shooting, we staged a Polaroid relationship photo shoot. It was very fun and super ridiculous. When we set up the wall of pictures, I made sure that the one I touched was one of the shots I liked :)
1:29 We shot the video just after valentines day, so we were able to get a flower shop to give us all of their unsold flowers to use for the video. Virginia’s apartment was FILLED with dead flowers by the end of it!
1:46 In order to try to get this shot, we ended up stuck in 45 minutes of traffic near the Santa Monica pier and almost missed the sunset for the beach scenes! This was the most stressful part of the shoot by far
1:52 This was the first thing we shot. The first thing I did was drop one of the glass bulbs and break it. #oops
1:58 Everyone was really into this camper. Our director, Virginia, brought her 3 month old baby to set (I KNOW RIGHT! He was amazing) and during breaks sometimes the two of them would chill out inside here to get away from the activity.
2:11 all of the shots in the ocean were just extras that we did because we had extra time. They were just like “Shayna, go play in the ocean” And I think I got a little too into it!
2:31 We were actually running a race through the park. And I was supposed to win. But I was wearing shoes (for wardrobe purposes) that were like 2 sizes too big and I was so slow, that basically no one else had to run!
2:40 This is my favorite shot!
2:50 Virginia sent me a text about this shot which said “You know you have a female editor when they spend an hour trying to figure out how to work in a shot of your abs”
2:54 The musicians in the video weren’t actors- they were musicians. So we did playand I sang along while we were shooting. It almost felt like an actual concert.
3:02 We were actually able to do this shot a couple of times. Every time we ran towards the birds, they flew away and then came right back… which I wasn’t too happy about. It’s really hard to run in the sand!
