New York Times Crossword, Friday 4/1/22
Part of knowing the NYTXW meta is knowing that on April Fool's Day, you should expect some sort of joke puzzle. Oftentimes the joke puzzle is easier than usual. Today's joke/trick is one that I haven't seen before, playing on the word "solution" and with a literal interpretation of the note at the top. To be honest, I think this is a pretty fun trick, which definitely got me. And it didn't affect the solve of the puzzle, which I was appreciative of.
It solved more like a Wednesday than a Friday, so tore through it, had a chuckle at the trick, and now it's time for bed. I sort of wonder if this was submitted for Wednesday April 1, 2020, but there was already a puzzle slotted for then. This puzzle isn't tricky enough for a Thursday, but they repurposed it by slightly toughening up the clues and running it on a Friday. But this is just wild speculation.
9s on the Mini and 4m55s on the daily puzzle. (Weekly running total: 21m27s)
Weekly PB: 36m35s
