Muscle soreness (also known as delayed onset muscle soreness or “DOMS”) is a common phenomenon that you’ll experience after your workout. However, is workout soreness beneficial and is muscle soreness an indicator of muscle growth? In this video I’ll go through why post workout soreness is believed to be an indicator of muscle growth (based on its connection to muscle damage), and why this perception is flawed. You’ll learn what causes muscle soreness, if workout soreness is necessary, and what the “optimal” level of muscle soreness is.

I've been working out for five months now. The only muscles that continue to be really sore are my legs. My biceps and shoulders are sore for a day my legs are sore for three day. But I'm really seeing great results. I'm 54 and getting into the best shape of my life.

I haven’t worked out in years and I’m super morbidly obese. I’ve been doing 30 minutes per day on the elliptical for the past 4 days and my legs are very sore today so I’m taking a rest. But this video reminded me that I can still do an upper body workout even though my legs are sore. Thank you.

Muscle soreness after squats definitely has a correlation with strength gains. It happens when the muscle is out of shape or when you change your program/routine.

Soreness is Generally associated with muscle damage, which leads to muscle growth with the right nutrition and supplementation.Yes some activities can cause a soreness that is not co related with muscle damage, but if you train a specific muscle and feel the soreness in the right spot the next day, it can only be good news. This is why i'm gonna disagree with the statement that you should reduce volume or intensity if the soreness is too extreme. Just keep your workouts the same and run a split that does not involve you training a sore muscle...Just my 2 cents.
