Special counsel Jack Smith filed a new indictment against Donald Trump on Tuesday in the federal case related to January 6. The updated indictment includes the same four charges but is shorter than the previous one. Smith explained in a related document that this new indictment was brought before a different grand jury that hadn’t seen the case before. He also noted that it follows the Supreme Court’s rulings and instructions from the July 1 decision in Trump v. United States, which dealt with Trump’s claim of immunity.
