I Just Spread 14 YARDS of DIRT Over My Lawn!

This is Step 3 of our 2022 Lawn Renovation. We are spreading 14 yards of topsoil to level and smooth things out in preparation for reseeding. If you have any questions, leave a comment. I do my best to answer all of your questions.

I feel your pain and sweat doing all that work by hand. It’s great seeing people doing stuff themselves. I will never use another wheelbarrow after using the gorilla cart. Best thing ever.

Getting 9 cubic yards of a topsoil/compost/sand mix tomorrow! Once I finish dethatching and aerating I’ll spread the dirt and sling seed. A lot for one person!

With the weather we have had in NJ, when do you think is the best time to overseed?

That's a lot of hard work. Did this 4 years ago. My only regrets was not leveling properly after putting down the top soil and using a verity of grass seed. Should have went with a good quality grass seed. Excellent job. Always love your videos. This would be the perfect time to install an irrigation system. Not sure if I missed it, but do you have an irrigation system? I consider it to be essential for a beautiful lawn.

Hello! This may be a silly question but how did you remove the grass first? How did you start with bare dirt? I have some bare spots but after reading this I’m thinking about removing the grass and reseeding

Vince. Great video. Two questions for you:
1- why did you choose to only use topsoil and not sand? I always thought a mix of top soil and sand was ideal
2- I would like to do a complete renovation in the spring. Have you had any success with a similar renovation during the spring?

What mix did you get from Leonberg? I am getting a delivery on Saturday with the compost soil mix. Dethatching and aerating on Friday, soil on Saturday and seeding. I know were both neighbors in SJ

Will we be seeing a return of triple threat. I purchased a bag of triple threat plus back in May cause I knew pricing will go up as well as shipping costs.

Great video! I’m struggling with finding good quality topsoil in my area. I think it would be unrealistic for me to expect no sticks, rocks, weed seeds and insects. I will just have to sift the soil and deal with the weeds and insects.

Dumb question, why is it that you never find weeds growing in the dirt piles at a nursery? Is it because they typically keep it covered up from the rain?
