It’s hard to beat the sound of a cassette hub. Here’s a quick tip to take your current cassette hub and make it sound louder. #shorts

Note: This tip is recommended for your typical 3-4 pawl type engagement systems as seen in the video. It may be best to check and re-oil or re-grease every few months to insure longevity, but don’t overthink it. These types of cassettes are designed to last many years with occasional maintenance.

Would only recommend if you want to constantly re lubricate

If your want more noise while riding in the backcountry, clip a playing card to your rear A frame and let it buzz on the spokes. Like when you were 6 years old.

That hub is the Total Bmx Tech 2, my favorite cassette! The bidirectional feature is super nice. I ended up changing to left side drive. And if you want a loud hub, avoid hubs that use one big spring that goes around the entire driver. Get one like in the video that has individual springs. And always at least grease the hinge on the springs and pawls to keep them from binding. That’ll get you the loudest sound.

I’ve always done the opposite and immediately put thicker grease in my free-hub to make it (quiet…😌) before the silent hubs became a thing.👌😉

You'll have more wear, cause light oil will not lubricate well in any way.. You need grease.

Can add a spring from a pen to make it a tighter engagement

If you can't afford a Hope hub then you may not want to remove all the grease that protects your hub just to sound cool.

What’s wrong with just a card and clothes pin?

Added resistance also makes for a slower hub

How did you just pull your driver out like that I’ve been tugging on my for a few minutes now and it won’t budge

it never turns out the way I want when ive done this in the past. sounds more like cans rolling down the street in the wind rather than a satisfying click

So remove the grease so it can sound louder and so it can get damaged faster ? Makes sense

This seems like taking your springs off of your shock absorbers because you like the sound of your car hitting the ground. The recipe for disaster it's greased for a reason high-friction causes high heat causes high wearing

So if i put more grease it would be quieter ? Also would there be a limit to the level i could do that
