Got a 2021 Mazda CX5 myself and have to say it’s a great car in most respects. It’s only the two wheel drive version so not great in snow but otherwise the auto box gives effortless driving comfort and is quite nippy in sport mode. If I had to find faults, the arm rest is a little far back and the window switches are too far forward but apart from that top notch.

Cool video, interesting to know Mazda still has an old-school craftsman in its ranks.

Sad/funny that Sam is already preparing Mazda's epitaph.

I'm happy to wager you that Mazda will be healthy in 2030 as will all the Japanese car makers. I think they they build some of the most reliable and beautiful cars in the best colours. Mazda has for more than a decade said it would concentrate on fuel efficiency. It's time will come. Don't forget, it only takes three years to deliver a new car. And you have no idea of what they're planning. With computers you can completely design a car for manufacturer without leaving a computer to include the assembly line and robots very cheaply.

I have always loved the look of Mazda. It will be a very sad day if they go extinct. This video is wonderful and gives enough information to people that make enough money and are artists themselves and will pay BIG for a work of art like Mazda. I personally owned two Rx-7s and absolutely love them as well as other works of art that they produce. In fact i see Mazda in Tesla and I am drawn towards Tesla partly because of this reason. Technically Tesla is a rotary car as well pulling me in even further. Maybe some day Tesla will find it in it’s heart to make kits that allow us romantic fools to retrofit masterpieces like Jaguar XK-e type into EV as well as Mazda, Delorean, Ferrari, Lamborghini and such. The automobile has become more than just a tool but it’s so much more and making them have additional functions like hold up the grid or backing up the grid then we may be able to save the automobile from extinction.
Thanks Electric Viking 🙏🏽👍✌️ ⚡️

I own a newer Mazda 3 hatch myself - absolutely love the design, both inside and out. Performance wise... meh, it's fine. So now waiting for the mysterious Tesla Model 2. Hopefully comes out similar/even better looking.

Very beautiful cars just a shame that Mazda is not taking electricity seriously

I have never been compelled towards Mazda. Tell a lie, the original 1500 & 1800s from the late sixties and the last RX7 were pretty good. I find them fussy and overly elaborate. The current form is heavy and lacks a lightness of touch, IMO.
Takumi is a wonderful craft and skill (Kiseru and sword age-kitae), and the worked examples are stunning. Even Casio use a beaten steel watch case for some of its G Shocks (for a Gshock its an eye watering price too).
To impact and confirm a design direction, it must be like ‘lofting’ a panel for observation and effect. Something you just don’t get from 3D visualisation or mass modelling. It’s not really part of design as such, its more metallurgy, decoration, detail and form.

I’ve paused @2:57…with the discussion about how small Mazda cars are on the inside vs their exterior.

I’m just betting now that in the next 30 seconds I’m going to hear how big Teslas are in the inside vs the outside, and how great Tesla is vs the poor cramped interior Mazdas are….let’s see.

Contrary to popular belief, I think Mazda will survive. They are ranked as one of the most reliable brands, along Toyota/Lexus. They make some of the safest vehicles. In the new updated US IIHS side test, they scored better than their competitors where others scored marginally. Their compact Mazda3 scored better in the side test than the Toyota Corolla. So they know how to make cars, how to design them well, they are safe and reliable, their paint quality is on a league of it's own.. and their new plan suggests that they will release an EV on a dedicated platform by 2028, with 100% of their lineup to be fully EV by 2030. Toyota owns about 5% of Mazda stock, they are working together on a factory in the US. They may be 'late', but as long as they get there, I think they will succeed. I love that their stock is only at about $4, makes for a great opportunity to buy. In the end, once they all make EVs, only the ones with superior reliability/quality, and safety will succeed, and Tesla has yet to reach reliability/quality to the degree of Toyota or Mazda, even though they have scale.

I bought a Mazda CX-50 Turbo because the Model Y was $66K and out of my budget in Sep 2022. It has an amazing interior, fantastic stitching, and great leg space in the front and back seats. It's got an aggressive stance and a very long (and high hood/bonnet). Beautiful car but I'm gonna trade it for a Model Y this year which is now $47K.

This channel is Australian? It would be nice if it would be sometimes mentioned. I'm from Europe(an Union), Finland - we, as in Nordics, usually get all the new EV cars from all manufacturers. I have not seen a Mazda in ages.

Well u don't seem to know much engineering so I'll say it first
Cars have short wheel bases not because they can't be bigger
The longer the wheel base the heavier the frame gets due to extra strength required the turning circle gets larger and sometimes handling suffers plus EVs lose in leg room compared to ice where they don't have to have a giant battery pack under it if u have seen a rwd sedans back seats and see the giant hump in the middle where the drive shaft is u'll notice what i mean

The MX-30 (with the range extender) is a clever hybrid and may be the best due to its use of a light rotary engine that overcomes most of its limitations. It just might sell well. Then again, it might be the last use of a rotary, and perhaps a hybrid, in a few years. If Mazda is smart they'd license the best EV power train they could find. Maybe they could get Lucid in a bankruptcy sale.
