In this short plumbing video I’m showing my work that I have just piped up using brand new copper caught that day!

Now I purchase my copper from a very good respectable independent supplier who gets it from a very well known copper factor here in the uk.

The last thing I would expect is the brand new copper to have a defect hole on it! This pipe is under mains pressure and luckily on show easily accessible. But what if I put this under the floor upstairs and it caused damage to a customers house from no fault of my own?

Have anyone else had this issue before? Is copper really the solution to pipework or is it just getting cheaper and cheaper made! If you liked this asmr plumbing video then please give it a like, comment below if you would do anything different and please subscribe if you are new! See you on the next one!

I've seen it pin hole on formed bends. The copper we're ripping out is better than the stuff we're putting in.

Copper pipe 30-40 years ago was mainly made up of copper. Nowadays copper pipe is made up of copper still, but also a mixture of different metal alloys. So that's why a lot of newer copper pipe/fittings aren't holding up like the copper from 30-40 years ago would.

Lucky it wasn't under the floorboards..

Had this happen in several places with a length I used on a heating flow. Fortunately it was at my sister’s house and not a customer. Double fortunate her kitchen was about to be replaced and she hated the artex ceiling, so ripping it down to access the pipe wasn’t the end of the world. As many have stated the stuff we’re taking out is better quality than what we’re putting in!

Oh dear. Building materials are shit now.

I know the straightest path uses the least amount of material, but that's a little excessive no? I mean you could have routed those copper pipes along the wall and left a little more room to work on other stuff around it!

In my 16 years plumbing I’ve never seen brand new pipe pin hole.

You wana share which brand it is so we can avoid it?

That’s the stuff of nightmares. It could’ve been a first fix behind plasterboard or anywhere 😢

That’s absolutely nuts. I can’t believe how cheaply made the materials are becoming..

Wow eh, that’s why I try to reuse as much old copper as I can. Because 20 years later it’s still better than what we get today

The difference is 40/50+ years ago copper came from Copperopolis in Welsh Wales, UK but now it comes from spain and a few other places but is no where near the purity of Welsh copper which was exported world wide until cheaper variants came on the market! Its also not pure copper today its mixed with nickel n other cheaper metals which costs quality n longevity!

I had this the other week, filled up and it was near a 22 elbow, resoldered it twice before cutting it out and starting again. Finally found it and had the same look on my face as you did ! Copper has gone down hill lately tbh !

Impurities in the copper cause pinholes.

imagine burring the whole new copper main 3 inch supply system in 3 feet of concrete as a foundation for a 15 million apartment building, only to figure out that the pipe had thousands of micro holes that opens up a few months after installing. This shit cares me.
