In this video I restore a pair of vintage pioneer headphones that I bought for about $3. I had to replace ALL the foam as well as the TRS connector and a bit of cleaning.

Thank you for this. I have a pair of SE-405 I got from my dad. It has touchy volume nobs on the out side of each ear. Going to pop it open and take a look at the connections!

Thanks for making this. I have SE-305 phones that I wear for several hours everyday and I did this fix last year after watching your video. Just lately they're acting up in the same place where the cord enters the headphones again though, so in my experience if you're going to do this it's probably better to just replace the cord with a new one instead of screwing around with a wire that's been abused, pulled and stepped on for 40 years. The only thing I'd add to your video is that you don't need to cut that outer plastic protector sleeve where the cord enters the headphones because you can just slide it off and reuse it.

Tbh, this time I think I'll just get rid of the cord and wire up one of those screw in 3.5mm jack inputs so I can use a removable cord. Vintage Pioneer headphones from this series sound good and are super comfortable though. To me it's just like having a pair of earmuffs on. I wear them at the computer even when I'm not listening to anything. They're totally worth saving.

I have a pioneer se 450 i picked it up in a antique shop it works fine but the ear pads are not in good condition. I checked the headphones i am not sure whether this model earpads can be removed and replaced by a new one. Please check and let me know whether the ear pads can be removed for this model. It seems the ear pads are glued.

Where did you buy foam like that? Could you post a link?

I have a pair of SE-305's. The bit of foam underneath the earpad has a hole in the center. Exposing the driver housing. Not sure what it would do to the sound. May make it worse, may make it better.

Cool. I bought a pair several years ago, and the cable started failing where it enters the headphones. It's the original coiled cable, which I like. This has spurred me into trying to repair mine. I'll probably just hack off the bad end so I can still have the original cable.

While cleaning up my grandma's house, i found a se-205 in the original box, completely working after almost 40 years. If you could let me know what kind of foam are you using to replace the old one, just because i found a pile of dust insdide😂. Thank you!!

Those excellent headphones, deserve a much, much detailed maintenance an care.

The foam replacement was just awful. so rudimentary.

There is not love at all in this job. sorry about this, but as an audio lover is what I think.
