Bed rotting is a popular TikTok trend that’s been on the rise these past few years. I’ve suddenly started seeing content from Japanese content creators who are bed rotting on another level. Like eating questionable looking food, and living with bugs as roommates. Is this content posted by people going through something, or is it just another industry plant making ragebait content? I’ll be talking about Asian work culture, bed rotting, and reacting to some interesting videos of Asian Garbage House Influencers #edvasian

i genuinely think this happens because its as close to killing yourself as you can get without actually dying.
its just lying down and waiting to die and imo explains the risky behaviour too.

I do NOT believe he’s not sick. Mold poisoning can show up as a number of different symptoms: Headaches, asthma, chronic pain, anxiety, fatigue, etc. So even if he isn’t experiencing stomach issues such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea that does not mean he isn’t slowly degrading his own health. Mold exposure is incredibly damaging.

I remembered when i used to bed rot. It was not fun and i felt depressed to even do anything. I would wake up, go to work, come back and sleep. I was depressed that my floor was so messy. Im ashamed from this but it's really sad having to see this as a trend. F* all ppl who try to do this to look "fun" but for the ppl who are actually suffering from this, I hope you get to have motivation, happiness, and lots of love. Find inspiration that can get you moving. I pray the best for you.

i hate when people think bed-rotting is just laying in bed. its being so depressed you can't bring yourself to move/leave your bed. not having a cozy off day

I feel like the rotten rice guy is going to end up in one of that doctor's videos about "Man ate 2 week old rice, this is how his organs shut down".

4:06 I would actively prefer to scavenge the forest for possibly poisonous mushrooms than risk eating that rice

The best collab this influencers could have is with that finnish lady on youtube that cleans entire houses for free for people going through debilitating conditions

1:45 bed rotting describes deep depression, it’s not meant as a term for relaxing and being lazy. it just describes the deep depression spiral one goes through to the point of not eating or showering

As someone that bed rots (no, not glamorized, I'm mentally unwell and im really really trying to get better, buts it hard because im a young teen that isnt supported and rather threatened by their family) and this is SO bad. Im disgusted myself, even if ive lived like this, surrounded by old trash, mold, and bugs. I struggle so much, and then i see people living like this. Not trying to get better, putting themselves online, when they so clearly need help. This should only be put online for AWARENESS, not content.
It shouldn't be a "trend", it should be helped. That's that.

Edit: I've managed to finish cleaning my room! It took, , a while, as can see, , , but I'm gonna be getting my own room soon! Though I was told that if I can't keep it clean I will be forced to sleep in the living room so i "can't make a mess there", i am very excited to have my own room for the first time in my I will definitely try to keep this one clean to the best of my abilities :D

i used to 'bed rot'. it was shortly after my dad was hospitalized for covid-19. i was severely depressed. i refused to eat, refused to shower (my skin was sticky from excess sweat from just lying in bed with my bedcovers all day), refused to attend the online school (wasted about 5-7k USD and affected my GPA perm.), refused to brush my teeth (on weeks on end), and refused to clean up my room. i let the food that my mother forced on me sit on my dresser for days where it would be cold, dry, and have flies on it. there would be piles of plates and dishes. i had matted oily and itchy hair as well as itchy/irritated hair *down below* because i wasn't washing. i was cripplingly depressed for roughly a year like this, only taking showers when i couldnt stand the itching anymore and even then only using water, no soap. i sheltered and deleted my social medias which removed a lot of my friends (since i was always an online introvert). when i had to go to the bathroom i would hold it in and delay it until i couldnt anymore.

i don't know what they're going through, or if it's a fad, but it was a horrible life. i would never wish the mentality, negativity, loathe, hatred, and sadness i went through everyday on anyone. i pray for them, even if its just for show or not, to find the strength to pull themselves from it.

To think, ten years ago, I rememer warching a documentary about a Japanese hikikomori whose house ended up that way after his mom died (his dad had left them, iirc) and he spiraled into severe depression. It took him several years for his house to get as trashed as the clip shown at 3:30 .
And when the cleaning crew helped him clean and found pictures of his mom in the mess, he cried and thanked them.
I think there are a lot of people who are...not emotionally well. I didn't think anybody would intentionally do this, much less show it off...
😞

Oh man, apparently i was so trendy when i was severely depressed!
Jokes aside, its fine to just stay in bed and be lazy for a day, but once youre leaving moldy cups everywhere... time to see a therapist.

I’ve got to give you major kudos for this video—it really hits home. You nailed it by highlighting the constant pressure to grind and how it can push people into burnout. That bit about "bed rotting" as a coping mechanism is so on point. But you're also right—there’s a fine line between rest and letting things slide into something more serious, like depression. This is quality content that more people need to see. Keep shining a light on these important issues!

As someone who is disabled and mentally ill, I struggle with this to an extent. Luckily not to this level, but I am seriously concerned about the woman with the bugs. Not so much due to the bugs, but the FIRE HAZARD. Even if she is using an induction stove and not a hot plate, she must have things plugged in under all the extremely flammable material in her home.

being poisoned from left out/ old rice is a very real threat!!! no amount of dish soap and extra ingredients is gonna make it go away😱
