I own a 2006 w203. All I can say is that once an issue is sorted, you will use it for quite some time.

Interesting research “If you can’t afford a new one, you won’t be able to afford a used one” love ❤️ it, clever and catchy ✌️

Not arguing. My mechanic makes the point that the newer Mercedes break a lot. Scotty K. said that German-made ones are less prone to breaking. I have an older W164 GL450, 160, 000 miles. I've replaced the front air shocks, the pump. The front and rear sensors are erratic (I turn them off). Garage kept. Runs pretty well, very comfortable to drive.

I’ve had a brand new C250 2012 and a brand new A45 2016 model. Tyre wear was ridiculous, on the A45 I’ve changed 3 sets of new tyres $450 Aud per tyre in 24000 km’s. The car went few times in limp mode while driving in comfort mode. The triangular plastic from the passenger seat got loose started falling off . Distronic plus was working 30% of the time, the air vents were rattling. Also the driver’s seat adjustment controller went inside the door panel twice, so I had to take it to MB dealership and the 2nd time they’ve scratched the door and kept denying it. When hot the brakes were making squeaking noise. The C250 was pulling to the left a lot. Took it to MB dealership and after 2-3 wheel alignments they’ve said to me it’s ok even though it was not ok. Also the brakes were let’s just say, not up to standard. I would never buy another Benz again.

Re: Rust, to be fair the first 2 cars you showed was a W210 and a W202 all of which are over 20 years for the newest ones and approaching 30 years for the oldest ones. Considering the C-class that you highlighted was a C220 1993-96 that is not a lot of rust for a 28 year old car living in Edmonton, every other car from that period would have rusted into dust like Mazda, Toyoto, Ford etc. The first gen ML was garbage and was the first MB to be made in the US and suffered from a lot of problems. Since 2003 all MB were made from galvanized steel and some of the most recent ones (C-class 2014+) are mainly all aluminum except for high strength steel for the A post and rear quarter.

I have 2013 CLS63 AMG, with 58, 900 miles on it, and so far I have not experienced the problems you mentioned. But thanks for keeping us informed.

Truly nice to know that even the engine mounts can leak on a Mercedes. At least they don't have a sensor hooked up to it so another light comes on when it's falling apart.

$190/hr…….. shit I need to be a Mercedes mechanic instead of a carpenter……. I’ll never run out of work

I have a W204 2012 C Class 80k Km, so far no issues at all, great luxury drive, if you are thinking of buying a used German, I would definitely recommend getting one that's low mileage, under 100k for sure.

As reliable as the ol crank windows are, I'd have a hard time going back to any car that had them. Same with power locks.

You're absolutely correct about poor construction on Mercs such as the ML and C class of late 1990s to 2000s. There seem to be fewer and fewer on the roads. Our family owned several new ones and they are rubbish. My sister has a W204 which has several oil leak problems which were unheard of in very early Mercs such as W114, 123, 124.

The overwhelming majority of what was mentioned in this video applies to all cars and is a result of rubber and plastic pieces being used. Rubber and plastic have a 5 to 7 year lifespan in just about any automotive engineering application regardless of the manufacturer. Most people do not care about these pieces and just replace cars when they start to knock or things start cracking. Bushings, airbags, variety of sensors, spark plugs, etc. And as to the statement regarding spark plugs in Hondas lasting the life of the car, please provide written proof from Honda that their spark plugs will last those 200, 000 or 300, 000 miles. I have to call out BS on that one. Even iridium spark plugs should be changed every 100, 000 miles or so.

Also if you rely on the MB dealership for service on your used 4 to15 year old S-Class....Yes you will go broke!!! $$$ "Find yourself a good private mechanic" I have owned six S-Class models over the years ....great cars.

Find it interesting that parts may cost double/trouble compared to a cheaper vehicle, as if to say they are superior when clearly they are not. Although it could be just bad design, so that it is difficult to repair and the cost of labour becomes astronomical.

Yup, my thoughts as well...No I didn't know what would need to be replaced but the thought of being faced with extortionate prices were enough to keep me well away from them and to get a Skoda Octavia instead!

So for a 2014 S-class is the air suspension system the only applicable issue on this list? Or are the motor mount and CV joint common problems as well? May buy one with 50k miles...
