The Honda S2000 was a revelation for the drop-top sports coupe and became one of the most popular JDM sports cars in the modern era. But while they once were affordable, S2000s are now appreciating at a rate that is quickly outpacing the pocketbook of the average enthusiast.

Even though the price is sky high, it still feels like a hidden gem

Bought my AP2 in 2016 with 75k miles for $12.5k. Its currently at 82k miles. It went from my dream car - to a great investment.

It's pretty crazy how the market has turned on the s2000 so quickly. Sure wished I would've picked up a low mileage example 5+ years ago. I was pretty lucky to pick one up right as the pandemic was kicking into overdrive and scored a 88k 04 for under 17k. Almost a year later and I'm seeing high mileage, 125k+, ap1's going for well over $20k. I don't think I could get the $30k yet, but I'm glad to have such an awesome car parked in my garage.

S2000 owner here. After watching your GTR and Supra videos, I was afraid this might come soon and sure enough it did. I bought my 2002 AP1 with 92500 miles in 2010 for $11000. 11 years later, it has 135000 miles (though it's my only car, I don't drive much). With the way the prices are going, I can probably sell it now and still make money... but I'd rather not. This was a great, true enthusiast's car that could be had for cheap but sadly no longer. For years, I've been trying to get my friend to get one and he almost pulled the trigger a few times (even got his wife's permission)... unfortunately, after all the years of waiting, the ship's sailed with the price being like this now. Some S owners are happy about the price appreciation... but I'm not in that camp. I had always planned on getting another S (newer and lower mileage) after I was done with my current one. Looks like that's not going to be feasible or sensible now.

I've noticed your other "Here's Why You Can't Afford..." videos pop up in my feed, but I never checked them out because of the cheesy click bait titles. I only watched this one because I own a S2000 and tend to watch content related to these cars. I'm glad I did as you've done a really nice job with this video. It's actually one of the more interesting, informative videos regarding the S2000 that I've seen.

As far as S2000 prices are concerned, I'd note that prices for all sorts of things have been thrown way out of whack by the pandemic, not just classic/enthusiast cars (the S2000 certainly isn't alone in this trend) or even used cars for that matter. It's also important to note that these cars are more than capable of racking up some serious mileage — a S2000 with 150K miles still has a lot of life left in it.

These cars definitely represent the end of an era given Honda's announcement of their plans to get out of the internal combustion game. Every automaker out there seems to understand that this Net Zero push is going to dramatically change the automotive landscape. While it's anyone's guess as to just when the ICE will be banned from our roads, if there was ever a time to enjoy driving a car like the S2000, it would seem to be now.

I got mine for a steal back in late 2018. AP2 with 58k miles, 1 owner no accidents all 10 VINs, WITH OEM hardtop for 20k OTD. Its been close to 3 years and she's just about to hit 70k miles. Never getting rid of this car.

I bought my 2000 AP1 Black/Red bone stock 37k miles back on 11-2019 just before Covid-19 for under $18k. If I was shopping for this car today, I don't think I can afford it. This car is basically a motorcycle with four wheels. Puts smile on your face every time you open the garage door.

I bought my 2004 S2000 back in 2008 for $26, 000 CAD. It's currently got about 70, 000kms on it and they are selling for $30, 000 - $40, 000 CAD here. Not bad when you drive a car for 16 years and it's worth more now then what you paid for it all those years ago. I'll never part with it though as it's a beautiful car to drive and always puts a smile on my face.

I miss Alex Albon 😢
I remember back when the choice between a clean condition low mileage fun Honda S2000, an old Porsche Boxster, or a brand new Subaru BRZ for $25, 000 was a real question.
Glad we chose Honda 😄👍

I feel bad, since I think when the time I can actually afford a car comes out, all these S2K's and NSX's are gonna be as expensive as a new C8 Corvette.

I bought my ap1 right at the beginning of the pandemic. 9/10 vins. 34k miles.
I purchased for 17k !! Now I’m positive i could sell it for even more, although it’s never going to be for sale.

I was actually shocked when I found about this auction result. I called my insurance company to raise my stated value coverage on my CR just in case. These rising prices are a double-edged sword, prices increasing means more hesitancy to put more miles on the CR. It’s too enjoyable not to drive though, especially with the hardtop off!
