CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dr. Sayer (Robin Williams) reflects on what he learned as his patients' conditions worsen.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on a true story as related by neurologist Oliver Sacks, Awakenings stars Robin Williams as the Sacks counterpart, here named Dr. Malcolm Sayer. Something of a klutz and naif, Dr. Sayer takes a job at a Bronx psychiatric hospital in 1969. Here he's put in charge of several seemingly catatonic patients who, under Sayer's painstaking guidance, begin responding to certain stimulati. Apprised of the efficacy of a new drug called L-DOPA in treating degenerative-disease victims, Sayer is given permission to test the drug on one of his patients: Leonard Lowe (Robert De Niro), who has not communicated with anyone since lapsing into catatonia as a child. Gradually, Lowe comes out of his shell, encouraging Sayers to administer L-DOPA to the other patients under his care. Julie Kavner and John Heard also star.

I have always thought that this was Robin's best role....

Robin... you were wonderful in "Good Will Hunting" but you were fantastic in the role of Dr. Malcolm Sayer (Oliver Sacks in real life). Your humanity doth shine forth like a star. When this amazing movie was over I sat stunned in my seat. I was affected so deeply by what I had seen that I wanted to share that feeling with everyone. The sad thing is that we rarely communicate anything deep with someone unless they are sitting next to us in the theater.

What a great and emotional movie, done by two legendary actors. This film was said to be Williams top favourite film he enjoyed being apart of, same thing for De Niro. The film literally touches your heart, and teaches you the value of life and how many people take it for granted. God bless Williams and Oliver Sacks. Two heros in a better place now. It's also amazing how Williams a few years later would battle a similar brain trauma/disease. Theres no words that can fully describe this movie. Astonishing. I could say the part that hit me the most was when Leonard had said he couldn't read anymore, and how he told his lover that it was his final time seeing her, like holy there is so much that could be said about the film, just you can't describe it, you can only see the film for yourself. God bless Williams, Sacks and all those patients who had suffered, and battled. Legends. Such an under-rated film.

Live life in the moment and be happy because no one can ever take those moments from you.

We all have the right to enjoy every moment of being alive and even when we are old and grey and have forgotten everything that happened it doesn't mean that none of it ever happened.

Mark this world with your kindness, your grace your humour and your spirit.
God bless you all x
