To Turn On / Turn Off or To Fix Backlit Keyboard on Dell Laptops Try these methods:
Method 1:
First of all, locate the key with the ‘keyboard illumination icon’. It’s position may change according to devices. In some, it may be on F10 , F6 or F5. Sometimes, it may be on the left arrow key. If you couldn’t’ find such an icon your device might not have this facility.
Then, you can turn on the keyboard backlight by clicking the Function key (Fn) and the key with the illumination icon simultaneously. Click them once again together to increase the brightness level.

Method 2:
You can fix this one from the BIOS setup also. For this, restart your computer and keep hitting F2 key on keyboard in order to open the BIOS Setup.
In the BIOS, click on “System Configuration” on the left pane and on the right, move down and locate the option “Keyboard illumination”. Turn it on to Dim or Bright mode as you can see in this video.
In the same window, you can adjust the light timeout when your will be connected to power or on the battery.
Once you set your options, click on “Apply Changes” and “OK” in the confirmation box. Then hit “EXIT”.
