Acute leukemia is a rapid-onset blood cancer originating in the bone marrow, leading to the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal white blood cells. This condition can quickly progress and requires immediate medical attention.

Presentation

Acute leukemia often presents with nonspecific symptoms that may be mistaken for other illnesses. The rapid multiplication of abnormal cells interferes with the production of normal blood cells, leading to various systemic issues.

Signs and Symptoms
1. Fatigue and Weakness - Due to anemia caused by a decrease in red blood cells.
2. Frequent Infections: Resulting from a shortage of normal white blood cells.
3. Fever: Often a sign of infection or inflammation.
4. Bleeding and Bruising: Including nosebleeds, bleeding gums, and easy bruising due to low platelet counts.
5. Pale Skin: Caused by anemia.
6. Bone and Joint Pain: Due to the overcrowding of abnormal cells in the bone marrow.
7. Swollen Lymph Nodes: Particularly in the neck, underarms, or groin.
8. Weight Loss: Unexplained loss of appetite and weight.
9. Shortness of Breath: Often due to anemia.
Vigilance
To be vigilant about acute leukemia:
1. Awareness of Symptoms: Pay attention to the combination and persistence of the above symptoms.
2. Regular Health Check-Ups: Especially if there's a family history of blood disorders.
3. Consulting Healthcare Providers: If multiple symptoms occur simultaneously or if symptoms worsen rapidly.
4. Routine Blood Tests: Keeping an eye on blood cell counts can help in early detection.
5. Educate Family Members: Awareness in family members can lead to quicker identification and treatment.

Early detection and prompt treatment are crucial in managing acute leukemia. Being vigilant about the signs and maintaining regular health check-ups can significantly improve outcomes.

My mom had exact same symptoms of fatigue, bruising etc for months and we went to general physician initially but it didn’t work instead she became more weak. We then did her CBC test done and very sadly found out that her TLC were 1.5 lakhs. I just realised that she might have Leukaemia and went to a good haematologist and she was diagnosed with CHRONIC MYLOID LEUKAEMIA (CML). It was very heartbreaking for us but with good medical care she is showing good signs of recovery.

I urge everyone to do take regular check ups and take care of your loved ones.

_i have been to this situation when i was 12 years old. It all started like a normal weakness but gradually i started developing a larger bruises all over my legs and chest. Sometime i felt like of shortage of breath, i couldn't walk for 5 minutes properly. My bones started hurting like someone is trying to break it into piece. After fews days i developed a high fever. Than we went to general physician he order few blood test and the next morning. I had 3 lakh wbc. Then i was referred to hametologist. Few more test were performed. Few test were horrible. Than i was diagnosis with APML. 6 month on treatment. Nasty side effect. But now am in remission. And stronger than before. Now i don't have a fear of death anymore. Cancer was blessings in disguise._ ❤ #stay strong who ever is suffering. This shall too pass.

Lost my wife to AML Cancer at the beginning of this year. Wish I had seen such video / was aware about Leukaemia & its symptoms before. Keep saving lives ... one death in a family is the destruction of the entire family.

Wow this case just matches my own story. Last year I didn't went to the hospital instead of suffering from dysuria along with tiredness because all I ever wanted is to focus on NEET. This year, after days of my exam I suffered from very high fever, pain in back, joints and it was really difficult for me to move my leg due to my abdominal pain. Still I was so stubborn and toxic to myself that again I didn't went for check up and survived with painkillers and paracetamol. After 5 days my condition worsened and finally I decided to go to the hospital and guess what ? I was not only suffering from UTI but My bilirubin was 3 times more than the normal range, the gall bladder was thickened, ascites, viral hepatitis and HGB was around 10. Now I'm fine but the doctor recommended me to continue the meds for 2 more months. Now I have learned my lesson, it's our responsibility for visiting the hospital for regular checkup every 3/6 months.

My case was similar, my hemoglobin levels fell down as days went by. I consulted with a hematologist and he prescribed me 8 units of blood and some other injections and medications but still there was no improvement. When my hemoglobin level fell to 3.6 I changed my doctor, after a CT Scan, MRI and some other tests I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Colon cancer. Low hemoglobin count is a serious symptom of cancer.

I had all symptoms you mentioned in your comment. Was hospitalized for 15 days and nothing was getting diagnosed. Finally the Head Doctor said its Blood cancer and reffered me to a Cancer hospital. I'm thankful to that Lady Doctor..just before the Bone marrow test, she said "i suspect about your case, doesn't seem to be a cancer, meet a Hematologist." And finally it was diagnosed as DRESS syndrome. God restored my health and i got discharged from hospital after a month on my Birthday!

My aunt died two months ago and doctors told us that her death was due to septic shock caused by infection. But now after watching this short and reading the pinned comment I came to realise that maybe she was suffering from blood cancer. Because she started having pain in bones and joints since one year. She was feeling weak, and just like said in this video she had anemia but even after taking medicine, her condition never improved. She had nosebleeds and horrible wounds on her legs. She was suffering from mouth ulcer also. Doctor couldn't detect it. And atlast moment she started having diarrhea, started vomiting, her blood was thick and clotted when taken for blood test and at last moment she died having high fever.
I just request all of you to be careful, maybe my family was not that cautious which caused her death. I still miss her and keep thinking about her suffering
Also her WBC count was high like said in the video
