Good Days And Bad Days Of Singing - Why? - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy

Have you ever had a bad hair day?

Have you ever had a good hair day?

Have you ever been driving and sometimes it just seems like you hit all the red lights?

Have you ever been driving and it feels like luck is on your side and you hit all the green lights?

Or do you sometimes wake up and feel like getting out of bed is the last thing you want to do? While other times (probably after your second cup of morning java) you feel ready to take on the world?

Often times people feel like this about their singing voice.

But consistency is king.

Practicing CORRECTLY with consistency.

You want to be so on your game, that your 70% is better than most people's 100% and know this with confidence.

The legendary golf pro Arnold Palmer once said (when being harangued but a reporter) Reporter to Arnold: "Wow - Lucky Shot!". Arnold retorted: "You know I have been playing this game for 35 years, and the more I play it, the luckier I get!"

Let that be a lesson to all of us from the masters who have gone before us.

Yes, it is true the voice can be finicky and even fragile at times, but it is a muscle (actually a group of muscles) and the more we condition them correctly, the more we will turn our "bad days" into "GREAT DAYS" of singing!

I hope this video will help you on your singing Journey.

Great singing to all.

What are some of the things you notice that tell you this is going to be a good singing day or a not so good singing day? This can apply to life in general, too!

True. Sometimes I can belt out A4 - C5 without any real problems, but sometimes I can barely sing G#4. I am trying to become consistent with my daily practise and rituals. Thanks Ken.

Another thing I like to do is draw from life experiences and put myself mentally into what I'm singing and then the emotion naturally leads my voice into sounding like it needs to sound ... It's strange almost like when I get chill bumps during performance the audience can actually feel it and they get them too.. singing is so many things for me as I'm sure it is for you as well Mr. Tamplin ... I could never just wake up one day and say " I'm not gonna sing anymore" it's a journey of growth

It took a few years of frustration for me to figure out my specific issue. I discovered that I am one of those people that is chronically dehydrated. My job is fast paced, often moving from floor to floor and then out on the showroom to help customers. I would forget to drink water until I could slow down at the end of the day. So on the days that I know I will be singing, I chug the water! It has made a huge difference in the quality of my voice. Another trick for me is to stretch the inside of my throat before I sing. None of my vocal coaches ever suggested this before. I happened to hear this in a radio interview as a technique use by a musical performer and it made me aware of the tightness I have in my throat. These two pre performance practices have improved my singing by about 30%. Before I discovered this I thought of my voice as a separate and uncooperative entity that might decide to fail me when I most needed it!

Awesome and spot on! I have found that my vocal abilities fluctuate from day to day and I do find that my best singing is always in the shower. And I am not talking about acoustics. I am talking about my range and power, it all improves greatly when I am relaxed in the shower. Thanks for the tips bro! Love your channel!

I notice if I drink soda or anything like that or eat the wrong thing I find myself fighting and having a hard time with singing. It is like while I am singing all this pressure builds up in my stomach from the soda that it starts blocking my voice.... Thank you Ken for showing us your videos because of you I have notice errors in my voice and now I know to fix it, I still have a lot of learning to do when it comes to singing and practice fixing my problems in my voice but I believe I can make it, I pray to the good Lord to help me sing and He has and now He has lead me to you. And I thank the Lord Jesus for providing me you. I have found you singing better than the original singer a song that I have heard before and seen how well you teach and gives me confidence that you are the perfect instructor for me when it comes to singing. I love your videos and may the Lord God bless you Ken for you being generous enough to show us the right way of singing and I know you have helped a lot of people in their singing.

Whenever I have an off day it's nearly always because of the lack of sleep. Sometimes it's out of control with the job I have during the day. Such is life. This is another great video. I have been a student for over three years now. The best money I ever spent on myself. I'm no spring chicken either.lol. Your never too old to learn. Go for it.
