Howto hard reset GoPro Hero 3 and 3+ cameras

This video shows how to hard reset GoPro Hero 3 and 3+ cameras.
A hard reset is sometimes useful if the camera acts faulty, hangs, shuts down, or Wifi hangs. A hard reset will reset all camera settings but it will not delete data on the SD card.

If this procedure didn't work for you then reboot your phone. I struggled for hours and repeated the steps over and over because I could in fact change the name of the wifi, but I couldn't connect to it...a simple reboot was all I needed. Thumbs up if this comment helps you.

Instead of moving the Update folder over to the SD card, try moving the files in that Update folder out of that folder and up into the root directory on the SD card.

This is a soft reset. Hard reset would clear all of the information that came up on your screen. Hard reset = factory reset.

For the GoPro [ HERO3 ], the files need to be in the root directory of the card, NOT in a folder. Copy the files directly to your card, not in a folder. It will not work if the files are in a folder.

Hi, I can't pair my iphone 12 pro max to the Hero 3 and tried several times to update firmware + wifi or only update wifi but "an error occurred when trying to save these setting. Please try again" showed on my Iphone. I tried to reset my Gopro Hero 3 but there is a new error showed on its screen ""SD error" although I formatted as default and they still work well on my PC. Please note: the SD cards were no problem before re-setting. Could you help me? Many thanks.
