I’m 30 and my fiancé is 28. We were living and working in Seattle. Rent was over 3 grand. We didn’t have much margin to save up for a house and were using credit cards. I asked my boomer in laws if we could move in, they agreed. We now have zero debt, we will have more than enough for a downpayment come spring 25’ and it’s honestly been great helping out my fiancés parents lift heavy things around the house, contribute with groceries and bills. It would’ve taken 2-3 more years without their help.

Dave, you're so detached from reality it's ridiculous. Rent right now averages 1500 or higher in San Antonio, Texas and that's only going to get you a piece of crap apartment in a not good area of town. Most places you rent want you to make three times market value at that. You're telling me millennials need to make $4, 500 a month/50k a year? How? My buddy who graduated college this year with his degree in corporate tax and finance got started at only 50k.

For one, old people like you aren't retiring so we don't have any jobs to move into. For two, your generation helped to fucked the economy for everybody and now you're telling us that we're the problem and that we need to figure it out.

I’m not putting my kids out on the streets because a 1/1 is 80% of their entire take home pay. They can learn work ethic without being forced into shit situations

The problem is rent is half their income instead of a quarter to third as it should be. Dallas, TX

My son lives in a tiny apartment in a nice neighborhood in Philadelphia, but he makes good money and paid off his student loans in months. He told me his friends who live in larger, fancier apartments are having their rent subsidized by their parents, even though they too make good money. My son follows the Financial Peace way. I think he will be much better off.

I disagree. They are not failing to be responsible. It’s nearly impossible for people their age and younger to purchase a home or pay rent and save for a home and retirement without some assistance.

Thank you ; my parents stopped me from buying a carton of almond milk and five avocados a week. Now I can pay for everything . I am now a home owner: I’m a real man now

This is a much longer discussion than a “short”. I agree Millennials should be supporting themselves by now IF the economy was similar for them.

Boomers worked hard for what they have. Millienials are working hard now. The difference is a dollar used to go ALOT farther.

Honestly, we don't have a choice. They will be homeless with these prices. I like you Dave but you are way off base with this one. I raised three incredible kids. Independent, I just shake my head when they ask how we do it. I say I just don't know. It's a very different time. It's a damn crime actually.

I'm tired of successful people telling people who have it hard to square up and be a man, and telling family not to work together and help support each other

The economy is fucked. That’s why everyone is becoming more dependent

Have you seen the housing market lately?
In most of the country, simple rental accommodation is half of the average persons salary.

Until these people face the real-world numbers and how salaries don't match rents and mortgages anymore, you're a fool to listen to anything they say. The numbers will not connect unless you live like a poor person for 20 years. Even that won't work.

I think a lot of the reason why this is happening because Boomers really pushed their children to seek a college education because they truly believed that would make them more sucessful in life because no longer could you start out with just a high school diploma and work your way up to earning a good salary. But unfortunately, the cost of that education was so high, you couldn't work your way through and pay for it as you went as you could back in the 60's, 70's and early 80's. They believed as much as their children that taking out those student loans would be a wise investment for their future earning potential. They ALL were lied to and it turned out otherwise.

I don’t think cheering and coaching is gonna solve the outrageous housing cost …….
