In the Australian TV series A Place to Call Home, a.woman of British ancestry wanted to marry a man whose family was of Italian heritage. It was disapproved by his family because of religion. She went through church instruction and was baptized Catholic. Leaving the church after the ceremony, she remarked to a friend, "It's remarkable how easy it is to convert to a different religion when you don't believe in either one."

Finally getting away from the toxic ideology is what saved me from chronic depression and the self loathing that is Christianity.
Its completely nonsensical.

She realized her earlier answer wasn't good enough to get enough of that Christian grift going, so she clearly studied some of those fake conversion stories and copied them.

NOTHING at all that she has ever said on the topic remotely applies to christianity, nor christ nor even scripture.
I'm almost impressed that she'd actually become so much less coherent as time went on.

Once I was working as a bartender at an upscale casual place. A man came in and ordered some food to-go. While he was waiting, he told me about his history of addiction and how only Jesus could get him out of it. He made exactly as much sense as Ali.

Which is to say, none. He also didn't tip.

Ali became a "Christian" for the same reason Jordan Peterson became a "Christian" because that is what you need to do to get popular in right-wing circles. And you need to be popular in right-wing circles to make a living off the right-wing cultists.

Christianity has been in decline in the West for decades - and violent crime is also in decline.

I used to respect her. Then came her Prager U video on how "wokeness" was as bad as Islam, which is downright laughable. She even said in the video that "I call the trend I am talking about "wokeness"", as if Chris Rufo hadn't bragged years ago that he was planning to use "woke" to mean anything he didn't like.

The worst part of her "conversion" is how transparently fake it all is. If I wanted to fake a conversion, I'd actually claim, with a straight face, that every single atheist secretly knows the world was created by the conservative version of the Christian god 6000 years ago and I'd use my own "past" atheism as proof. That lines up with what Christian conservatives desperately want to believe, and is consistent with their own stated beliefs. The fact that Ayaan is unwilling to outright affirm a solid belief in the basic tenets of Christian fundamentalism, instead appealing to the benefits of belief, is to me one of the strongest pieces of evidence against the religious claim that everyone secretly agrees with them.

I don't believe Ali is sincere for a moment.

The fact that she discribes not killing herself as cowardly shows she never really engaged with her mental health

You don't need God to have meaning or purpose. When you use something to do something, you give it a purpose. For example, when you use a piece of wood to prop a door open, you give it a purpose. So if you desire meaning, use your life to do something. And the more you choose to do with your life, the more purpose-filled and meaningful it will be.

I "choose to believe" that Jesus was the first circus clown.

If, when asked "Why did you become Christian?", the first sentence isn't "Because I became convinced that it's true", then what are we even doing.

We've been here before. Mussolini courted the Catholic Church because he knew he'd need their support to seize control, despite previously having been very anti-clerical.

To me any former atheist that suddenly embraces Christianity for reasons of politics, (be that notions of combating 'wokeness', combating Islam, or combating communism etc), is a great big red warning flag that what they've signed up to isn't Christianity but thinly veiled right-wing nationalism.

Ayaan seems to be saying, "I just believe in it, okay! Stop asking me this! It's not a big deal!"

Whether or not someone can rise from the dead is a HUGE deal. It's literally the cornerstone of Christianity!

In Holland she was one of the most vocal atheist in the public eye. She worked with Theo van Gogh, the most anti religious film maker at the time, against Christianity and Islam. Atheism is the norm in Holland. Now she id in the States where Christianity is the prevalent idea and now she is a follower of Christ. Apparently this was the only why she could come up with to stay relevant in the public arena. Ayaan does what profits Ayaan. She is well spoken but without content or integrity.

When you are primed to accept a claim when you are at your lowest, guess what - you accept the claim (doesn't matter which claim).

For the record, i had never heard of Ayaan Hirsi before she converted. From my perspective, she is a famous christian, not a famous atheist.

When I saw that debate/conversation happened, the only thing I thought was “why would you even platform this nonsense?”
