Abstract Algebra Lectures Part 13: Characteristic of a Ring

First a recap of factor rings, and the ring isomorphism theorem. For any ring R, there is a unique homomorphism from the integers to R. Using this homomorphism, we define the characteristic and explore some properties, including the "freshman's dream" and the characteristic of an integral domain.
