Ableton Live Tips w/ Thavius Beck: 'Did You Know' Pt 13 - Quickly Changing Octaves + Transposing

We launched the series back in January, and for eight consecutive Mondays, Thavius shared invaluable production advice, tips, tricks, and techniques and examined some of the less explored and slightly hidden features in Ableton Live. In the latest installment of the series, Thavius shows how to quickly transpose and shift octaves by simply holding Shift + Arrow Up (to go up an octave) or Shift + Arrow Down (to go down an octave).

Thanks! I appreciate that... my macbook is the last iteration of 13" MacBook Pros with an 2.4 Ghz Core i5 processor and 4 gigs of ram. The more ram the better, but as far as minimum specs I think at least 2Gbs is necessary nowadays... my biggest recommendation would be an external 7200rpm hardrive for you audio. Most internal laptop drives are either 4500 or 5400 rpm and can give disk read errors if you're playing a bunch of audio tracks at once.

Hi Thavius - I gotta say in a short time I've become a big fan...your music is amazing and your ableton tutorials have been incredibly eye-opening. I have a question: I am looking to pick up a Macbook, and i was wondering if you would mind sharing what the specs (storage, memory, etc) are on your Macbook and/or perhaps suggest what the minimum specs are that I should be looking for?

Did you know if you hold Command/Control while adjusting a knob you can fine tune its movements.

This is glorious, I've been looking for "how much does a piano keyboard cost?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Penaycer Rudimentary Preponderance - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ?
