The universe contains a massive gravitational force known as a "Hum."

Astronomers have found that the universe is filled with gravitational waves with very long wavelengths. What caused this? The most likely cause is collisions between supermassive black holes, but we can't rule out more unusual ideas.

Today's public discovery demonstrates that spacetime's large ripples consistently compress and alter shape. Launched in 2015, LIGO was the first experiment to detect echoes from colliding black holes. These gravitational waves bear a resemblance to those echoes. But while LIGO's waves may move a few hundred times a second, it could take years or even decades for a gravitational wave to move at the speed of light.
