I never have spoken in tongues and for those that do, more power to you. I am well that I am a child of Jesus Christ. Praise His everlasting name. AMEN and Amen. Peace be with you all

Romans 8:26 says, "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words."

I had a very powerful encounter with Jesus when I ACCEPTED HIM AS LORD AND SAVIOR WHERE i FELT THE HOLY SPIRIT ENTER ME WITH SUCH JOY AND PEACE. A few years later I received the Gift or baptism of the Holy Spirit and it was a similar experience to my accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I did speak in tongues and felt the same peace and joy from the Holy Spirit. I have no doubts that this is real and the Baptists are wrong on this one point. Mostly I pray in tongues privately when I don't know how to pray and I need a word from the Holy Spirit. I've received many specific words from the Lord this way that came to pass as the Holy Spirit said.

Romans 8:26 says, "For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words."

this is only partly true, we don't need to speak in tongues but Paul encouraged us to do so. you don't do it to prove your Christian you do it to speak to God to edify the flesh. it is a new dimension of prayer and really is s blessing

Read your Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to open your spiritual eyes of understanding.

I love to watch your teachings.. everything is spot-on..but I have witnessed many people speak in tongues when they get saved crying their eyes out.. we say they really really really really got saved when this happens.I've had many friends that said they would blow up if they did not speak up in tongues.. someone does interpret.. a message from the Holy Spirit to the particular group of people in this church.

I was watching Q&As by Dr.John Barnett thankfully about his phenomenal erudition and ability to reply instantly to an arbitrary question, and pointing to Bible verses. Until.. I got to the Holy Sprit related Qs.
Cessationism per se is an attempt to read into Bible the things we experience or do not notice in our life.
However, It is well known that M. Luther prayed for Melanchthon and Jesus healed him. Daughter Ilze of my sister was diagnosed with cancer of 4th degree (well documented case) and was healed by Jesus during a prayer in the local RIGA charismatic church after a “healing” service. Being a PhD math.I was very “worldly” and confused. But lat year 2018 Nov 4th I got baptized according to Acts 2:38, and desperately praying Jesus that “I want to understand” this jibberish and tongues converted into my native language and Jesus talked to me about an hour like in 2sam 23:2). Instantly Bible became my favorite reading book. In 2 weeks praying (without no knowledge or experience of an exorcism) in tongues on a trump addicted on alcohol for 10+ years a daemon manifested and the guy collapsed on the floor. Science he did lost zeal for an alcohol (now more than a year).
I have no doubts that Cessationism is very wrong, and BTW it’s a plan for deception by the evil one.. It started with “victory” of formal authority of lapsed apostolic succession bishops over confessors lead by Spirit, and continued during elimination of montanists (btw supported by Tertulian). And then - physical destroying by armies of “Christian” emperors (within paganized Roman church) even of the tomb of Montan and physical elimination of lat montanists in 7th century - if I remember correctly - who rather preferred to burn alive rather than neglect the living God who dwells in them and with whom they have personal relationships because they just “hear Sheperd’s voice” as his sheep. Holy Glost dwelling in you (and recognizably speaking to you, paši g you thoughts) is centrālā to Gospel in context of John 16:13, Jn 15:26 and The NT promise in The OT: Jer 31:31-34 (no man Shell teach each other because They will Know Me! How? Via Holy Spirit who takes what belongs to Jesus and gives to us!) Holy Spirit testifies about Jesus, via HS via testify [Gr. Marty’s = witness] about Jesus with our lives we testify about Jesus. This is characteristics of those who “will overcome”
Tongues in practice is a way that Holy Ghost prays via you (but you usually have no clue what about exactly). While you are praying in tongues during repentance - on a person - The Holy Ghost gives a hints of forgotten sins (usually recognizable by a person) that devil wants to hide and uses to captivate the person. We pray in t..when baptizing with HGh, and when casting out daemons. Then praying in t.. somehow edifies a person and teaches to listen to the Lord (a biblical concept that sheep recognize Him by voice, or being led by the Spirit), and sometimes - solves some spiritual tasks in the spiritual realm (we have no clue about) but as we believe - helps to solve things what we are praying in words. We have seen miracles (scientifically speaking otherwise very low probability events but we prayed about).
Bible has 2 Gr. words translated as tongues - Gr. diakektos [aka dialect] and glossa [aka jibbering without any sense] the later is used in NT 47 times.
Mark’s version of Jesus Great Commission:

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues [glossa];

Lord says that other Tongues will be signs not for Israel but shall come with any discipleship!

and this as we know including commandment of our Lord about discipleship is forever as Dr.Barnett rightly teaches in other Q&As.

Listening to Holy Spirit and be lead by Spirit, walk in Spirit are things to be learned and taught during discipleship. To recognize the ideas that come from the Lord, and recognize which one comes from the evil one and which are of your own conscience. There knowledge of the Bible is the must. Paul teaches - balance between praying in spirit [tongues] and with understandable words [with conscious mind]. BOTH! That’s about a balance: 1 Cor 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

You can still go to hell even if you can speak tongues .... I really do not know why they want to speak only in tongues but not heal not walk in JESUS Christ.... I rather have my Heavenly Father Holy Spirit teach me and live in me than to speak tongues especially if no one else can understand what I am saying... We are the body of Christ Jesus so the whole body of Christ Jesus must be edified .. Not just the person speaking

I spoke in tongues when I got baptized! God is supernatural. His gift is free. Jesus said believers will speak with new tongues. Period. God bless.

Speaking in tongues is the sudden ability to speak another language without ever learning it.

The Holy Spirit is recieved as the result if the Holy Spirit baptism. Which is to be filled with the Spirit to overflow, which is what Spirit baptism is, and occurs after repentance and water baptism.
The word " recieve", in the original Greek, means " to take hold of". So to be filled with the Spirit must be earnestly and continually sought in prayer until God answers your prayer and fills you. Then one must yield/ surrender their tongue (" the body's most unruly member the No Man can tame " ) until the Spirit takes control of it (" tames it " ) and enables the believer to speak in the spiritual language that the English translation calls " tongues". When this occurs it triggers the baptismal overflow and the believer has now recieved the Holy Spirit.
When I recieved I had a couple of the men lay hands on me, that had already been baptized in the Holy Spirit and pray for me to recieve.

We do still speak in tongues when we receive the Holy Ghost. It's still happening today. It happens every week in churches all over the world.

One of the most dangerous things a believer can do is solely base them being saved off of something rather than the true way in John 3:16 with what the Lord specifically says there. You being saved is NOT determined wether you speak in tongues or getting baptized.
We also have to remember their are certain parts of the Bible that are Descriptive Scripture and Prescriptive scripture. Speaking in tongues falls under Descriptive.

Speaking in tounges has been a blessing and a sign in the pentecostal revival in Los Angeles in 1905 and other movements of God.

But, you're missing out on what it says in chap. 14, vs 4. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue EDIFIETH HIMSELF; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
Tongues wasn't even suppose to be spoken in Church if there was no interpreter. When the gift of tongues is operating in the church, and there's an interpreter, or, they can interpret themselves, it's the same as prophesying.
You, and I, are the Church, and we need to edify ourselves. I actually have heard ministers say that we need to get recharged, or, refilled, once a week, and that's why we need to come to church. No we don't. That's not suppose to be the reason we go to church. That's why church looks more like a pep rally these days, than a place of worship, and prayer. And why there's so much sin in the church. How many members read their Bible outside of church? Few, only those who become lovers of truth.
We can get recharged everyday of the week, by staying plugged in, lol. The H.S. is involved with our regeneration from the very beginning till the day we are redeemed. He convicts us of our sin, and shows us we need a savior, when we hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Washing away our sins is just the first step.
There's also the Baptism with the Holy Spirit, and with fire. The H.S. leads, and guides, us into all Truth. He reveals Jesus, and transforms us through the Word of God, by renewing our minds. He helps us have the mind of Christ. We can do nothing without Him.
Tongues didn't cease. Church leaders quit teaching it. God hasn't changed. They just quenched the Holy Spirit, and started serving God in the flesh. The same way people won't be saved if they don't hear the Word of God preached. They have to hear that there is a baptism with the Holy Spirit, before they can receive it. People need to believe what the Bible says. Not pick, and choose what they're gonna believe. Fill us Lord to overflowing, with rivers of living water, amen. We are blessed,

The apostles never spoke of recieving the Holy Spirit and the baptism of the Holy Spirit as two seperate events. We are to recieve the Spirit to overflowing. That is what being "born of the Spirit"is.A birth always speaks of coming forth out of.The Word says that we are to specifically ask the Lord to fill us with His Spirit. We are to continue to ask until He answers our prayer and we know He is( it's an experience). As He is filling us we MUST yield our tongue to the Spirit so that the overflowing baptism can occur. When He takes control of our tongue He will testify, in His heavenly language, using our tongue that we are "born of the Spirit(John ch.3)."This baptism also allows the Spirit to stay inside of you forever.

Corinthians 1 13:13 Faith, Hope, & LOVE 💗 abide FOREVER
Speaking or not speaking in tongues, prophecies, human knowledge will all pass away!
I discern many comments here as not being made in love. Corinthians 13:12 says we ALL see in the mirror DIMLY. So - why so ‘puffed up’ and contentious with brothers in Christ?
When led by the Holy Spirit, each of us ultimately acquire and manifest the the gifts He gives us to best serve Him.
Make sure you answer when he ‘knocks’!

Speaking in tongues is no longer necessary with so many translating devices available and multiple language options given for everything.

“Tongues of angels” is a private thing between you and God and spoken as the Spirit gives you utterance.
It is NOT public nor for the church.
God speaks English (and any language) and if God needs to speak to the church as a whole He should speak through the pastor (is that not the pastor’s job anyway?).
That is my primary litmus test of a pastor. If God thinks He needs to bypass the pastor then the pastor, and the church as a whole, is no good.

Thank you because we were beginning to feel defective as we were told at our baptism that we would immediately speak in tongues, but could not. Everyone else did. We thought maybe we (my children and I)weren’t worthy. Thankyou
